LAPP: Light Art Performance Photography

Marie Kazalia
Long before I was born, Pablo Picasso and photographer Gjon Mili created light paintings in a darkened room. http://bit.ly/e8BVOo . Amazing stuff, especially in the year 1949.
Basic photo student courses since have taught students, usually rather incidentally, the *trick* of pen light drawing in a dark room with long camera exposures. I've also experimented a little with this technique.

Now, Light Art Performance Photography has developed their own brand of light painting. Remarkable work that captures complex sequences of precisely choreographed movements
unimaginable in the context of traditional low light photography or video production.

In September of 2007, Jan Leonardo Wöllert and Jörg Miedza founded Light Art Performance Photography, or LAPP for short. LAPP artists use real-world surroundings combined with transient light elements, LED and other light sources to produce micro-environments and unique effects.

The LAPP-PRO project and the www.lapp-pro.de website provide the artist pair with a worldwide network for promoting their art pieces. The defining characteristic of LAPP is the harmony they create between the background and the relatively harsh light used to produce the individual images.

LAPP light artists JOERG MIEDZA and JAN LEONARDO WOELLERT, have co-authored a book:
