Get 250,000 Miles on Your Car

Daniel Liu
Was it not so long ago that cars were made only to last a good distance of 100,000 miles at max? But nowadays, cars have been manufactured and designed to last an average of 200,000 miles. Some are even engineered to bypass the average car and exceed 250,000 miles or more. So now you're probably sulking over how your car can't even last 200,000, and more, 250,000 long miles. Well, admittedly, that does depend on your car type, engine and model. But even if you're car is just considered average and typical, believe an expert when he says that 250,000 miles is definitely reachable even for your car. But that is, provided that you can follow the recommendations below faithfully.Keeping a car running that long without breaking down is already a feat in itself. But if you really want to know how this can be possible, the secret is that it just boils down to your car's maintenance and preparations.

The following steps are what you, as the car owner, can do for your car in order for it to last 250,000 miles.

If you're really serious on making your car last that long, then skipping on your car's maintenance needs won't be a good idea. Of course everyone wants to cut a few bucks on every scheduled oil change that your car needs. But this eventually results to your car getting lesser oil changes than it actually deserves speeding up the wear and tear of your car's engine and which ultimately shaves off on the lifetime of your car. So keep those tires rotated, filters clean and fluids changed as often as when your car needs them

Keeping a vigilant eye for your car's well-being is also one key to optimizing your car's performance. That includes opening your hood even though you'd rather not it with your own hands. It is necessary that you keep a constant check on your car parts especially parts that are hidden in the hood. You don't get to see that part of your car very often so you may not also notice it when there are already some terrible odors or exhausts, unusual sights and sounds going on inside the hood. You may also want to check for some abnormally exposed wires, cracked hoses, liquid leaks and insure that your battery is still clean as well as its terminals.

Your engine will mostly be dirty though but make sure that is isn't too layered with oil and anti-freeze. If such is the case, then it's probably time to get your car some servicing. You can also do the minor repairs if you think you can handle them to save yourself some time and money. Remember that manifestations of these car disorders are usually the early symptoms of your car getting more serious problems. So don't ignore one if you truly care about your car.

The most important strategy for keeping your car at top performance would still be keeping it clean as much as possible. Giving the maintenance, washing and waxing it for a good amount of time and keeping the tires at the highest possible condition are the summarized steps for getting your car at its peak. Keep it clean on the inside, shine it on the outside, and you're car gets a good shot at reaching that well-deserved 250,000 plus miles as this won't only make you car look good, but will also maintain if not increase your car's expected useful life as well.
