Get a 6-Pack, No ID Needed!

Meg Browne

Have you ever wondered just how to get that flat stomach? I have a few keys to get you there sooner rather than later. Now, most people will tell you to cut out all forms of sugar and junk food and only eat top notch healthy items. Although this is decent advice and a great way to get a fabulous body, it's just unrealistic to cut out every single bad morsel of food. So what to do? Exercise!

Every flat stomach and fit body needs to start with the right nutrition; that's no secret. However, it's also no secret that most of us are going to fib and cheat a little. When that happens, it's time to exercise. Here are some tips to that 6-pack.

Cardio, Cardio, Cardio!

I know most of you don't want to hear this, but a good cardiovascular workout is the key to that flat stomach. You can do as many ab circuits as you'd like, but without cardio there will still be that extra "protective" layer, as I like to call it. Just a few minutes of cardio a day can really make a difference! I'd recommend starting out with a light jog and alternate with walking. Not up to jogging yet? Start on the stationary bicycle for 20 minutes.Work your way up to the elliptical, then jogging, then eventually running. If you're willing to work at it, you'll get there in no time!

Work your core in everything you do.

Start this by altering your posture. Make sure you walk and stand straight and not hunched over. Tighten your core while you stand, sit, and walk. While you're at work, tighten and then release your stomach muscles in a metronome-like rhythm. Also, while you're at the gym, tighten your core in everything you do. Weight lifting, those leg machines, lunges, calf raises, everything should be done with a tight center.

Walk before you run....and after.

Always keep in mind that walking burns fat, running burns calories. So before any hardcore running workouts, walk for a few tenths of a mile. Maybe even on an incline. This will get your muscles going and the ball rolling to pave the way for a flat stomach. After you're done with your run, it's also a great idea to walk for a little while. Not only will this help to give you a cool down and help prevent your muscles from becoming sore, but it also burns more fat.

Work in an abdominal circuit every day.

I know I said you could do abs until the cows came home and still not get a 6 pack, but it does help - if and ONLY if you accompany it with some good quality cardio. Even the smallest of abdominal workouts each day will add up.You may not see results right away, but they will definitely be there. Right after you run a couple of miles a week, of course!
