Review of Buymytronics.com

Say you got two digital cameras for Christmas (you lucky son of a gun), and you waited to return one of them for so long that the store will no longer take it back. You could do the tacky thing, and just re-gift it, or you could still put money back in your pocket.

Maybe you have a cell phone that no longer works. You could keep it in "paper weight" mode, or turn it into a little spending money.

Buymytronics.com is a website that purchases electronics equipment directly from you. It's advertised as easy, free, and fast. So what's the catch? They just send you cash for gadgets you don't want? It can't be that easy! Actually, it is.

History

Buymytronics.com was founded by Brett Mosley. Brett wanted to create an eco-friendly way to dispose of his broken iPod and found that there were no outlets to dispose of it. iPods' tend to sit in landfills for years, further adding to that growing problem. Mosley discovered that there were millions of other people with broken gadgets and no way to get rid of them. It was that problem that led him to start buymytronics.com as a solution. After all, why throw away your old electronics when you can get paid for them?

How Does This Work?

I'll walk you through step by step how to turn your own unwanted gadets into cash.

1. Simply visit the website www.buymytronics.com and click on "Create an Account" located at the top of the screen. (BTW, it's free to sign up)

2. Once your account is created, type in the name of the product you want to sell back to them in the search box. An easy to use list of products pops up as you're typing it in the search box so you can quickly see if your product is there.

3. Once you've found and selected your product, you'll have to answer a few questions about it. They'll want to know whether it's working or broken, the condition of it, and what all you'll be sending back (cords, manuals, original boxes, etc.).

4. Once you've answered the questions, simply hit, "Calculate my Price" and they'll instantly tell you how much you'll get.

5. If you like the offer, just click on "Sell Now" and you'll be able to print off a pre-paid shipping label and you're ready to go! The site is very easy to navigate, and I was able to sell my gadget back in less than 10 minutes.

What Can I Sell Back?

Currently, buymytronics.com purchases back cell phones, PDAs, Apple accessories, apple computers, game consoles, digital cameras, eBook readers, and MP3 players. They are working to expand the categories of items they can purchase.

They will buy back your broken gadgets as well, so before you just pitch them, check the site out. Most of the time you won't get a lot for them, but it's better than getting nothing!

How Long Does it Take?

The turnaround time is fantastic. For me, I had a check in a very respectable 2 weeks.

Give Me Some Examples!

I found that buymytronics.com has a very fair payout rate, but I wanted to post some examples taken directly off their site to give you an idea about their rates.

Blackberry including cables, charger, box, and manuals: $65
Apple iPhone 3G 16mb including charger, battery, manuals: $163
Canon Powershot a560 including battery, cables, manuals: $27
Playstation 2 with cables, manuals: $12

Check out your own product to see what its worth, you don't have to go through to hassle of creating an account to just check the offers.

My Experience

I got a new cell phone and didn't need my Blackberry. I followed to steps to create an account on buymytronics.com and shipped my device to them from my local post office (the shipping label is for post office use, not UPS). They offered me $65 for my phone and in 2 weeks, I had a check for $65. I was very pleased with their service and the ease of use of their system. I had no problems cashing the check at my local bank either.

Overall Grade: A

The site couldn't be easier to use and the turnaround time was great. The only thing keeping this from becoming an A+ is their product selection is still a little limited. With time though, this issue will be resolved.
