Get in the Christmas Spirit at Mohegan Sun

Are you looking to get into the Christmas spirit by visiting a place with lots of Christmas decorations?

A stop at the Mohegan Sun may just be what you need to forget your Christmas stress and enjoy the holiday season.

Mohegan Sun Casino, located in Uncasville, CT, always is decorated for Christmas and this year is no exception.

The casino calls their decoration display "Mohegan Sun's World of Holiday Marvels."

In the Casino of the Sky, a unique constantly rotating object with blue and pink leather and metallic elements in the form of a Christmas tree is located in the middle of a hallway close to the Sunburst Buffet.

Not far from here, is a 16-foot illuminated wreath with a large red bow and lighting display of snowflakes is located above the 55-foot tall Taughannick Falls which is visible from the upper and lower levels of the Casino of the Sky.

The casino's hotel lobby features the theme of a frosted forest with an 18-foot tree of freezing cascading water, ice sculptures resembling forest animals, and a Christmas tree.

Walking down the Shops at Mohegan Sun Corridor are 17-foot icicles and custom designed snowflakes, also visible from the upper and lower levels.
Also in that corridor are two ice sculptures which resemble wolves and a Christmas tree adorned with many decorations.

Mohegan Sun is a great place to do your holiday shopping and between Dec. 3 and 24, holiday gift wrapping will be available while 100 percent of the proceeds generated at the gift wrapping booth will benefit charitable organizations.

There are 41 places to do your shopping at Mohegan Sun ranging from apparel and fashion, jewelry, music and electronics, Mohegan Sun products, sporting goods/active wear, and specialty shops.

All that shopping will make you hungry, so enjoy eating or drinking at one of 39 establishments including buffets, food courts, coffee and dessert, casual dining, fine dining, and night life.

Just don't forget to visit the largest treat of all, a one-of-a-kind 17-foot tall life-sized gingerbread house which weighs over 3,200 pounds.

It looks so delicious; you will want to take a bite out of it! But, resist that temptation!

It is located in the middle of the Shops at Mohegan Sun corridor near Yankee Candle.

This is close to where the Casino of the Sky meets the Casino of the Earth.

According to a sign at the house, it was partially designed by students from the local elementary school.

I have seen the house in previous years but each year it is new, improved, and larger than the year before.

The house, which you can actually walk inside of, features hundreds of candies including a fireplace, bagel wreaths, holiday tree, and a chocolate rocking chair.

To protect the integrity of the house, large pieces of Plexiglas has been installed on either side of the main hallway of the house.

This year, the house features a copula and weathervane and is 24-feet wide.

The casino promises visiting the gingerbread house will be a "sweet experience for everyone."

In the Casino of the Earth, visitors who come through the Summer Entrance will be greeted by large 4-foot oversized Christmas decorations.

At the Winter Entrance, visitors are greeted by an 18-foot custom designed tree with 4,000 twinkling branches near a 6-foot wreath.

Last but certainly not least is Christmas decorations outside the casino proper, out on the main access road visible by both those entering and leaving the casino.

Drivers will see the large 66-foot tree with 70,000 twinkling lights outside the Mohegan Sun Mobil Gas Station and Convenience Store.

The tree played center stage during the third annual tree lighting ceremony held Nov. 27 at 6 p.m.

During that ceremony, the casino had a fireworks display, hot cocoa, a special appearance by Saint Nick, stilt walkers, and carolers.

I don't think any visit to Mohegan Sun would be complete without a visit to Krispy Kremes.

You can see the process of them making the doughnuts and purchase the warm, moist, hot off the machine doughnuts at the Krispy Kremes located in the Riverview Garage connector to the Casino of the Earth.

Other Krispy Kremes locations in the casino are located in the Riverview Garage entrance to Casino of the Sky, the Shops at Mohegan Sun at the Spring Gateway, and at the Mohegan Sun Convenience Store on the other side of Mohegan Sun Boulevard.
