Get Creative when Looking for Birthday Party Spots in a Small Town

Charlotte Sears Hammonds
You might think your birthday party locations are limited if you live in a small town like Benton, Arkansas. Not true! You just need to get creative and think outside the box.

What type of performing arts groups are in your area? My town has a local community theatre group, housed in a beautiful, old historic building. Put your little diva on a stage and give her the spotlight! Even if they don't advertise for parties, most community theatres will rent out their location, rent costumes, or provide entertainment for a fee. Party goers can re-enact a scene from a favorite play or book, sing songs, or be supermodels and put on a runway show. If the building isn't available ask about renting costumes, having an actor or singer perform, or even having a makeup artist come to your party. Theatre makeup artists make excellent face painters.

Local dance studios also provide options. Call the studio owner and ask about a dance party at the studio. The kids could learn ballet, jazz, or hip-hop. Or, ask about having one of the older students dance at your party. For December birthdays, you could have the Sugar Plum Fairy in attendance!

Remember, the key is your imagination. Even if a particular group or location doesn't advertise birthday parties, call them. Pitch an idea and see what happens.
