Little known facts
Gentian or gentiana is a cosmopolitan genus of 400 species of flowering plants that belongs to the Gentian family. Gentian has a blue, star-shaped flower. The plant can be found in such temperate areas as Asia, Europe and the Americas.
King Gentius of Illyria, whom the plant was named after may have also been the first person to discover its value as an herbal remedy.
In Appalachia, people use pieces of the gentian's root for energy and increasing physical strength.
In ancient Rome, people used gentian as a bitters on food to help their digestion.
A well-known German healer, Father Kneipp in the 1800s strongly recommended the bitters from gentian. "A little cordial made with a teaspoon full of gentian extract in a glass of water will soon stop the disorder," wrote Father Kneipp in relation to the power of gentian on stomach trouble after eating food.
True effects
Gentian can be great for the entire human system in moderate doses.

Gentian can increase circulation.
As a tonic, gentian is great for treating jaundice. It can also serve in bile production, and aide any liver malfunction.
Gentian can cause an effect like adrenaline. This is what I experienced. It felt like I had just drank a Red Bull, but without any of the harmful caffeine. All it is doing is activating certain glands and organs, stimulating the adrenaline hormone. This energy boost proves to be very helpful in emergency situations.
