Take your time choosing the right tattoo, don't settle for one you don't want to have on your body as an eighty-year-old. Your tattoos, should remind you of who you are, you should always be yourself, when you choose a tat. Make sure you research meanings of tattoos and symbols so you don't get some weird saying on your body or animal, because of a meaning, that doesn't mean that at all. For Example: Most oriental dragons don't have wings, because it is believed that they use magic to fly (it's not easy finding one without wings)!
If you don't like any specific thing or want something that you can't find exactly, put two together. A tattoo artist can envision what you want if you bring him/her several pictures and show them how you want them all to work together. Use art, or flash that you want changed. If you do want a piece of flash, any artist will be glad to customize it into exactly what you want.
How many times does a tattoo artist get asked if it hurts? No wonder they just laugh when someone asks that. Of course it hurts, and actually more than people think it does. It really depends on you though. If you get it done in places where it's sensitive or you have less muscle, then it will probably hurt worse. I hear all kinds of stories, but either way it usually doesn't feel good. It doesn't matter if you are a small woman or a big guy, your pain tolerance is your own. I've seen big guys cry and have to stop, while little women don't even flinch. Really it's not the same for any two people. From personal experience, colors do hurt worse than black and white, but someone told me that it's because they have to go deeper to get them to stay in the skin. If you are thinking about walking out in the middle of your tattoo, don't do it! Remember it's for life, sit still and remember that your finished product is going to be wonderful.
When you decide on your tattoo, be sure to talk with the artist you choose and set an appointment. Remember that you will enjoy a tattoo that is customized and fits who you are better than one every other person has. Don't worry about the pain, it does end, practically the second the tattoo is done. Take your time and enjoy the process of turning your body into art, then you will surely want another!
