Get Fit but Not Fired on Celebrity Apprentice?

Lisa Carey
Celebrity Apprentice made history recently with an episode that not only left watchers shocked after Donald Trump fired none of the celebrities but also by raising over $300,000 for Holly Robinson Peete's charity, the HollyRod Foundation, created by Holly in an effort to help families dealing with autism.

The task, create a fitness/exercise workout for 24 Hour Fitness and raise as much money as possible. Celebrity apprentices pulled out their Blackberry's and started making phone calls raising donations for the event, which included a substantial contribution by the WWE to Rock Solid (now aptly named with team members Brett, Maria, and Sharon Osbourne.) The winner would receive in addition to their donations, $24,000 from 24 Hour Fitness.

Next the apprentices had to get people to do the workout, for every one person working out one donation is accepted. Bret Michaels and Cindy Lauper sure know how to fill a room, and they weren't even having a concert. Special props to Cindy Lauper's mom; who gave the Tenacity work out her best. I thought seeing mom was a nice touch and, let's face it there has been a lot of family drama on this season's Celebrity Apprentice, with Bret Michaels' daughter's testing for diabetes and Michael Johnson's leaving to deal with family issues.

Admittedly each team had an advantage to the performance of this task. With a Gold Medalist swimmer on one team and a WWE Diva on the other as well as master fund raisers Sharon Osbourne and Holly Robinson Peete going head to head it was sure to be a close call, or so watchers may have thought. Throw in Bret Michaels creative efforts and I was sure RockSolid would be the winner of this challenge.

At the end of the show, RockSolid's interesting blend of rock concert actions and fitness won the $24,000 prize from 24 Hour Fitness, but it wasn't enough to win the task. Don't forget it had two parts, raising money and creating a fitness routine. The Tenacity team's fundraising efforts won more money than any other challenge in Celebrity Apprentice history.

So what's a man to do? Being Donald Trump he breaks the rules, and fires no one. Surprised? This watcher (and her husband was). A really unexpected move for hard driving businessman Donald Trump, but as he said, "See, I have a heart too."

Can he do that? Sure, after all it's his show so he makes the rules, and let's not forget he is Donald Trump.

Just this once, I'll agree with "the Donald." Two teams that performed the tasks admirably and who ultimately performed the real task as hand; raising money for a worthy charity in an award winning way deserved a big reward. Best of all was the charity that Robinson-Peete showed toward the "Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program" promising a contribution from the money raised in this task.

So what's next for the Celebrity Apprentice? In the far reaching future it goes back to its original concept finding someone who will show they will do anything for a chance at a job with Trump Enterprises. For the next few episodes, I think the charity seen in this one will probably not be as evident, but after all the in-fighting and drama of the past few weeks it was a pleasant change to see a nice side not only to Donald Trump but also to the apprentices.

I enjoyed this episode, likewise your review. I just thought Cyndi Lauper's mother was the cutest thing, a real scene stealer and good sport besides.
