There are tactful ways to go about getting your spouse going in the right direction with weight loss. You need to remember that weight is a very sensitive topic. Because of this one of the most important tips to help your spouse lose weight is to not nag or tease. Often nagging can backfire, and cause your spouse to over-eat due to the pain and annoyance of your nagging.

Your job is to encourage. Explain to your spouse that you love them and want the best for their health. Stress how important it is to you that they have a lowered risk of disease and a boost in their own self-confidence.

Be willing to be an active participant in getting in shape and eating right. Your spouse will be much more likely to succeed with you right there beside them through the process. Research has also shown a much less likelihood of quitting a diet and exercise program when it's done with a partner.

Another important tip in helping your spouse lose weight is to get rid of all the temptations in the kitchen. That means no secret stashes for yourself. Go through the kitchen together getting rid of all the unhealthy junk foods. Plan healthy meals together and make time to eat them together.

Becoming active with your spouse is essential in losing weight. If you are more fit than your partner you should try to adjust your program the level of your spouse. Get out and walk or jog in the evening of before work. If it's in the budget you could join a health club together. Along with getting needed exercise you will find the two of you are getting in much more conversation and bonding than when you were sitting in front of the television eating chips.

Be generous with compliments and spare the criticism. Offer an incentive to your spouse for staying on track and getting fit. Maybe a massage session would be a great incentive for those sore muscles that come with getting fit. A weekend getaway together would be an incentive that would be hard not to work for.

Enjoy each other during this process of getting fit and losing weight. Let your spouse know you are in it for the long haul and can do it together. Each goal will be greater when you can achieve it together.
