Get Free Literary Agent Lists and Affordable Query Letter Writing Services

F.D. Beckham
The first step for a writer in making an attempt to publish a book or sell a screenplay is to get an agent. Literary agents are the bridges between writers and publishing companies and production companies. The way to get an agent is by sending a query letter. A query letter gives brief, relevant information about a writer. The letter also gives a brief description of the book or script the writer wants to be represented.

After a writer prepares a query letter, the writer must find the proper agent to send the letter to. The agent should be someone who represents the genre of the writer's work.

For many writers preparing a query letter can be challenging and finding the right agent to send the letter to. There are many online services that will prepare a query letter and submit it to relevant agents. After evaluating many of them here are a few that I would recommend.

Virtual Pitchfest

Virtual Pitchfest will pitch a writer's query to a list of Hollywood producers, managers and agents. As a part of this agreement a writer is guaranteed a response back to all queries within 5 business days.

The cost for this service is $50.00 to pitch 5 queries and $90.00 to pitch 10 queries.

If one chooses to pay $90.00 for 10 queries, Virtual Pitchfest will prepare the query letter for free. Virtual Pitchfest lists the names of all the producers, managers, and agents they'll send your query to.

The producers, managers and agents are all legitimate. However, I found that by simply getting their mailing address and querying them personally by mail can save money.

Virtual Pitchfest only pitches queries for screenplays.

This service offers to write query letters for both books and scripts. It will send the queries to producers, production companies, agents, managers, film, directors and entertainment lawyers.

The cost is for the service is pricey, and the cost is based on who you select to send queries to.

For instance the costs to sent queries to the following are:

Productions & Production companies: $150.00

Literary/script agents & managers: $150.00

Affordable Editing & Critique Screenplay Service

In addition to editing and critique screenplays the service also offers to right query letters for writers of books and writer of screenplays. Instead of sending the query letters for the writers, a long list of literary agents and a long list of screenplay agents are provided to the writers. All of the agents in the literary agents list and all of the agents in the screenplay agents list accept snail mail queries, and some accept email queries as well.

For each agent or agency in both lists a mailing address and phone number is given. The lists also gives the genre the agent or agency is interested in. The lists are free to anyone who orders the query letter service. However, if a writer only wants the lists of literary agents or lists of screenplay agents a small fee is charged.

Fees:
(Book writers)Query Letters: $10.00 plus Free list of 200 literary agencies

(Script Writers) Query Letters: $10.00 plus Free list of screenplay agents.

If a writer does not need a query letter written but wants the lists of agents the costs for the lists are the following:
List of 200 Literary Agents: $10.00

Lists of screenplay agents: $7.00(there are less than 200 agents in this list)

If you are a writer needing help with preparing a query letter and sending them to credible agents I suggest these three services. However, I would recommend the service offered by Affordable Editing & Critique Screenplay Service; it is the cheapest and it provides an actual list of legitimate agents that a writer can contact personally for when making queries for future books and screenplays.. I personally feel that it is better for a writer to have personal contact with the agents he or she queries. That way the writer knows a query is actually being made.

Also I recommend that a writer query by "snail mail". When using snail mail always send a self-address stamped envelop to insure that the agent makes a responds. I found that agents do respond when sent a self address stamped envelop, even if the response is "not interested". Email queries mostly go unanswered unless the agent is interested in the story.
