With feet such an important part of our daily lives they are certainly worth taking care of. It is feet that are well taken care of that are beautiful. There are several things that can be done to help aid in taking care of tired, sore, and ugly feet.
*First of all getting a good pair of shoes that fit is important. This is especially true for any shoe that you wear for long periods of time and for any shoe that you exercise in.
*Second it is best if you have white cotton socks on most of the time and definitely when you exercise. If you have to dress, invest in silk socks for your daily wear. They cost more, but are much healthier then nylon for the feet.
*If you have an odor or moisture problem then investing in a foot powder or spray can be helpful, but it isn't necessary. Dousing the shoes with baking soda can help as well as some of the steps listed below.
Taking good care of feet:
1) A regular foot soak can do wonders. Soaking your feet can be relaxing as well as helpful for various problems you may be having. I always recommend at least 1/4 cup of Epsom or sea salts added to the foot soak. This does a lot to help your feet relax. Other things you can add are baking soda (which helps with odor), oils such as olive oil, sesame seed oil, or a nut oil of your choice all of which are available at your local grocery store (this helps moisturize your feet), Vitamin E oil which can be found in the pharmacy (this also helps moisturize as well as provide vitamin E which is great for the skin), Aloe Vera gel which can also be found in the pharmacy (great for relaxing and moisturizing), and essence oils in your favorite scent (chamomile helps kill bacteria, and lavender is especially relaxing). You can also add tea bags to make a bath tea. Some good choices for tea bags are chamomile and green tea. Soak your feet for fifteen minutes or so.
2) Next comes washing your feet. I believe that there are a huge number of people who simple do not wash their feet enough. They figure they don't get that dirty, or the water and soap in the shower is enough. This is often not the case and a great deal of foot issues could be solved with proper washing. A gentle scrub brush can be helpful as well as a loofah. Scrub the entire foot with a great deal of lather, then use the scrub brush to clean the nails really well (when doing this after the soak it is really easy). Using liquid soap is often easier and antibacterial soap usually helps if you have odor issues or other bacterial issues. If you have a fungal problem (don't feel bad a lot of people do) you can also get anti fungal soap.
3) Clip nails. This is best done while the nails are softened by the water. It is best to clip them straight across to make sure that you do everything to avoid encouraging in grown nails (which hurt a lot).
4) Dry Feet. If you have a lot of callouses or dry patches you can use a pumice stone or a foot file to help file these sections off. But the feet need to be completely dry and clean. If this isn't a big issue for you, skip it and go on to step four.
5) Moisturize. You can use a favorite moisturizer or an oil (or oil blend). Either will work, if you have extremely dry skin an oil may do the trick. I recommend a blend of sesame seed oil, grape seed oil, and a nut oil such as walnut or peanut oil. This will give you a rather thick oil but it also has a lot of rich nutrients. Aloe Vera and or vitamin E oil can be added as well as a few drops of your favorite essence oil to give it an attractive scent. Shake or stir well before using. It can be stored in a dark glass container (preferably) in a rather dark place for at least four months, longer if you added vitamin E oil which acts as a preserver. Apply the moisturizer or oils and let set. If you have really dry feet adding white cotton socks for the night can be very helpful.
*This should be done at least once a week, though your feet should be washed every time you shower or bathe.
*At any time nail polish can be added. I suggest buying a rather expensive nail polish from a well known company. It is easy to have nails chip on your feet and it is nice to have the polish last and look nice. If you are going to be using a lot of polish and or polish removers, I suggest making sure you apply moisturizer or oil to your nails as well as your feet, this will help them too!
Relax a few,and enjoy your beautiful, happy, healthy feet!
