Are you ready to be introduced to the most unique and catching sounds that this year has to offer? If so, you have to check out my interview with the very talented, hypnotic, and alluring Nerdkween. I would like to thank Monica for taking time to chat with me and I wish her all the luck with her upcoming album.

SM- Please introduce yourself.

MA- Hi, I'm nerdkween, which is pronounced "nerd" "queen". Its just the phonetic spelling. My real name is Monica Arrington. I write songs and instrumental compositions. I live in Atlanta, Ga

SM- Well, I'm not sure about the nerd part, but I know you're a queen. I adore your style, it's so different. What inspires your sound?

MA- I started songwriting when I was 11. I wanted to write pop songs like Debbie Gibson, that should tell you how old I am. But one day when I was 16, I discovered John Lennon and Yoko Ono on the album 'Double Fantasy'. My songwriting took a turn from there. I wanted to make music that was more realistic than the pop songs on the radio, even though I still enjoyed them. I was very moved by Yoko's odd voice and the songwriting on that album. I tried so hard up until then to learn how to write the perfect pop song. But after Double Fantasy, I tried harder to break the formula.

In high school I was introduced to classical music, again something very different for me. But I loved it, and in college I was more involved. Then I discovered the work of 20th century composers live Ravel, Schoenberg, Riley, Reich and Glass. The last three are Minimaist composers which is my most favorite. I also came to learn about Post Modernism, which is combining different styles of music to form a completely new sound. So I like to consider myself a part of the "Post Modern Pop" movement.

SM-Awesome, okay, give us the info about this rumor I hear that you are releasing an album this summer!

MA- I am finally putting out a full length album. I have two EP's (i see things differently now) and (the dark horse) and a live CD (Sketches at Eddie's Attic) out there but not a true album. I wanted to put this album out a few years ago but life gets in the way sometimes. I even stopped performing out for about a year because people weren't coming to shows. But just last year I was asked to play in an art gallery and I've been playing out steadily ever since.
So the album is called Synergy, because I like that word and because it kinda explains what I do. I bring different sounds together to make it more than it was. Also because I'll be taking some tracks from the two EP's and adding new tracks. I'm doing my own recording which is also part of the art of my sound. I don't think I'd be the same in a formal studio.

SM- I can't wait for it to be released, I have never heard anything like what you create! Some fun, what are three of your all time favorite songs.

MA- #1 Icon- its very spooky but clever
#2 If - I love to do my country yodel-thing!
#3 8 years - its meant to be seen as well as heard!

SM- Some more fun, If you could be an animal, what would you be?

MA- Probably a horse. I'm such a girl like that!

There you go folks, if nerdkween could be an animal, she'd be a horse. I could explain her music like a horse as well, strong, beautiful and unique. I encourage all of you who like the different side of the street to support our kween and check out her latest! Stay tuned to Nerdkween and check out her hypnotic sound at http://www.myspace.com/nerdkween.
