Practical Tips for Getting into Shape this Summer

TM
As the days begin to last longer and the temperature rises from freezing to slightly tolerable we all begin to think about summer. Of course with summer comes barbeques, picnics and days at the beach. Suddenly, you are in a panic! Beaches mean swimsuits and swimsuits mean that everyone can see every extra pound you put on while hibernating all winter. It is time to put the weight loss plan into gear and get in shape for swimsuit season.

Before you go and begin a crash diet and begin to starve yourself, consider some options that will be easier to maintain even during the cold winter months so you won't find yourself in this same spot next year trying to get in shape for swimsuit season.

Of course your eating habits are always something to look at when considering both your physical shape and your weight. If you are living off of potato chips and ice cream you are going to have a difficult time getting yourself into shape for swimsuit in any kind of short time but that doesn't mean you have to completely give up your favorite foods nor does it mean you have to live on lettuce and twigs. Just one soda per day can add 15 pounds to your weight in one year, so if you reduce by one soda you can lose 15 pounds in that same year.

Replacing the soda with juice is not a great option either as you will find that soda and juice are not that different in calories, drink a bottle of water in place of that soda and increase your chance for easier weight loss. It is best to completely cut out soda and sugary drinks completely but if you must have your sugary drink then cut it down as much as you can. Replacing the chips and ice cream with something a bit more healthy is not a bad idea but keep in mind you can also get baked chips and frozen yogurt if you absolutely must have them. There are many brands out there now that are very good and some are even better than the real thing.

Instead of eating three large meals or skipping meals, eat several small meals everyday. Research has shown that by eating every three to four hours your metabolism is constantly working to burn the fat and calories, the more your metabolism is working the easier it will be for you to get into shape in time for swimsuit season.

Of course, if you haven't moved from the couch most of the winter there is no way you will be in shape for swimsuit season without some kind of exercise. For many people exercise is tough because they can't find something to stick with. There is no better exercise than walking; the more you walk the more calories you burn. If you live in a place that weather conditions allow you to walk outside that is always the best because the scenery is constantly changing but if weather conditions or traffic conditions don't allow there are many malls that open early for walkers. If you are a person who loves to work out this part should be easy for you but for most of us working out is a chore and when you find a way to make it feel more like fun and not a chore you will stick to it longer. It really doesn't matter what kind of exercise you do just as long as you do some kind of exercise the more you do it and the more intense the faster you will get in shape for swimsuit season.

Getting into shape for swimsuit season is not rocket science but it does take effort and commitment. The more you put into it the more you will get out of it but if you are doing something that makes you feel like you are depriving yourself or torturing yourself it is unlikely you will stick to it in order to get into shape for this swimsuit season let alone swimsuit seasons to come. Find what works for you and something that will be easy for you to maintain throughout the year and you will that you will be in shape for this swimsuit season and many seasons to come.
