A Contributor Perspective: Meet with the League of Women Voters Today

Jenia Silver
Being informed to give your best judgment is what voting is all about. It's the popular majority that wins. While I have points of interests to advice voters, the League of Women Voter's (LWV) is a non partisan, non profit organization aimed to help protect voting rights and educate women.

Here are my observations to using key critical thinking when voting. A, the best choice is not always the most popular. B, the right candidate for the position is usually the winner. Watch the candidate's manners in dealing with public relations. This can tell you how well the person can handle a stressful environment. Stay with your party democratic, republican or other, or keep an open mind. Go out to events in your area to listen to public education lectures and forums. Be willing to meet and greet the person who is trying to get your vote. Do your own research on this person via the Internet. Using search engines like goggle can lead you to government sites, biographies about them, and prove their reputation of family and public concerns. Here are a few more sites to visit when learning about public offices like senators or others: www.vote411.org; www.peoplesamendment.org; and www.opensecrets.org.

Compare your own point of view to the candidates on issues. Do you agree? Be willing to write letters to that person. Gain a well-rounded version of what 's going on. Seek out the anti to any argument. Find out who is right. Is there a majority formed, is it for or against who you believe in? Who is giving the endorsements to candidates; ask yourself what do you believe about them. What is the majority of this recommendation, and so on?

In the San Jose area, LWV is planning many events. This organization was founded in the 1920's, before the 19th Amendment was passed. Today over 150,000 women voters are members nationally. Without these supportive organization regulations founding the FDA, Social Security Administration, and Civil Service branch of our governments may not have passed into law. Just as now, many propositions are being questioned on the California ballot. LWV still wants to provide education and support through the people as their own power in equality.
