Prepare Before Your Trip
Also, check in with multinationals and consultancies before you leave to see if they can place you. The basic thing on how to get legitimate jobs in Dubai is to try multinationals and to hire a headhunter. When you go to Dubai in person, you are more likely to get hired, as you are taken more seriously. You first need to get a pay as you go cell phone from Etisalat (the national telecom service) and put the number on your resume. Get a room at a centrally-located hotel (Sheik Zayed Road), then hire a cab for a day and hit the employment agencies. There are a lot of major ones in the city.
Meet and Greet To Find A Job
There is a formalized pecking order for jobs in Dubai: Locals get first shot, then Arab nationals, then all other foreigners. That said, certain nationalities (Westerners) come with more credibility and are likely to get better deals regardless of qualification. At the end of each day, pay your cabbie, and go hit the town and try to meet people. Dubai has a great (but relatively tame) nightlife and meeting the right person at a restaurant or shisha cafe can land you a job.
Remember that the cost of living in Dubai, even with nonexistent taxes, has gotten quite high in recent years. You need a good job, preferably with housing provided by the employer (which is a common arrangement). Try to stay away from jobs that seem like fly-by-night operations. There are companies in Dubai that are merely fronts (money-laundering by Russian mobsters, Iranian state enterprises getting around sanctions...). Try for the multinationals first. Depending on your profession, certain parts of the emirate may be of more interest to you. Companies are clustered into 'media city,' or 'internet city,' and so on. Hopefully this article has given you some practical tips on how to get legitimate jobs in Dubai. Here's to a tax-free life, great beaches, excellent international fare, and plenty of wealth all round.
