Get Motivated to Clean with a Cleaning Schedule

Sophie Spyrou

Who likes to spend hours each day cleaning their home? Although the house needs to be kept in good condition, cleaning does not normally top most people's to-do list. It gets pushed off to one side, until they are able to squeeze in a few minutes of cleaning. If you find it difficult to find the motivation to pull out the broom or duster and start cleaning, a cleaning schedule can help get you back on track.

List What Needs to Be Done in Each Room

When you stop and think of every little job that needs to be done around the house, it can soon become overwhelming. That is when many householders give up. But making a list can help you break down chores into easier, bite-sized pieces. Go through each room and jot down what needs to be done.

Delegate Jobs to Certain Days

Trying to tackle your whole home in a single day will be a challenge, unless you live in a small apartment that can be easily and quickly cleaned. If you live in a larger home, delegate jobs to certain days so that you do not feel as if you are losing an uphill battle, as you struggle to clean the house all at once. Delegate Mondays as washday when all the laundry is done, Tuesdays as kitchen and dining room day and so on until you have accounted for each room in your home.

Enlist the Support of Other Family Members

Unless you live alone, a cleaning schedule should include the whole family, including your spouse and children. Everyone should do their part to keep the house clean, even if that involves simple chores such as cleaning out the cat and dog's food and water bowls. Include everyone's names on the cleaning schedule, along with the days and chores that they will be responsible for. Remember that children will often need to be supervised and reminded to carry out their chores.

Give Yourself at Least One Day Off

If cleaning the house feels like mindless, monotonous drudgery, then it most probably is! Make sure you give yourself at least one day off from cleaning so that you do not feel as if you are constantly cleaning but never getting anywhere. An unrealistic cleaning schedule can wear you out, so go easy on yourself and give yourself breaks in between to recuperate and enjoy a sparkling clean home.

A cleaning schedule can help you organise the household chores that need to be accomplished throughout the week and help you plan your time more efficiently. Make a start by listing what needs to be done in each room, followed by delegating jobs to certain days. Enlisting the support of family members will make cleaning much more manageable, and do not forget to give yourself some time each week.

Excellent info! It's much easier to clean the house in parts rather than trying to tackle the whole thing at once.
