Get Nichey with It: Examples of Taking Mass Appeal Products and Giving Them Niche Appeal

One of the most daunting aspects to think about when you think about starting a business is who your target market will be. No matter if you're selling a mass appeal physical product or information product, you need to find a niche for your mass appeal product. Here are some examples of how common products can be marketed to specific groups of people and you'll find out what the benefits of doing niche marketing will bring you.

You can take a common item like candles and sell them exclusively for the romance and relationships market, the relaxation and pamper market, or any other groups of people who use candles for a particular reason.

If you have a website that has tips on saving money, you could target that site towards people who want to save up money for something specific like a vacation or a new car.

If you want to sell infrared cameras, you can sell them for those wanting security items or for ghost hunters to capture any abnormal activity.

Digital voice recorders can be marketed to forgetful grocery shoppers, freelancers (or any other group who has to constantly come up with ideas for what they do), or ghost hunters who'd like to use them to record EVPs (electronic voice phenomena).

By narrowing down your market for mass appeal products, your marketing efforts will be more focused. Imagine if you were trying to sell frying pans to a general market. Do you have an advertising vehicle in your mind to sell your product? Would you spend money on some expensive pay-per-click campaign? Why would someone want to buy your frying pan when they can just go to the store, online or offline, and get one from any number of sellers? You wouldn't have any idea where to start, and even if you just jumped right into it, your efforts will be a waste because they're half-hazard.

In niche marketing mass appeal products, you won't be trying to advertise in different avenues to different types of people, which saves you money and time. You can promote even more products based on your target market, not the type of product you sell as your lead, because selling a common product to the masses doesn't allow you to gauge what other types of products they'd want. They could want a variety of things you can't realistically offer and make money in the process. Ultimately, because of this, you'll have greater peace of mind and won't be stretching yourself too thin.
