It is imperative that every choir or music director have some working knowledge of software like this. Anyone can download the free trial. I know some people use Finale which I also tried once, but I eventually opted for Noteworthy for its simplicity, even though Finale has some plus factor over it. For one, you can scan music pages and it automatically loads to the Finale worktable. NWC doesn't have this feature. However, since I haven't got me a scanner, I made do with NWC and mastered it eventually.
Nowadays, with or without a live pianist, my choir could enjoy perfect accompaniments. Created files can be saved as NWC (.nwc) or in midi format which can be played in any computer, or an iPod, or an MP3, or MP4 players. I heard there still are other compatible players for this file type. But of course, you will also be needing a good set of speakers.
I am all praises to NWC. I have learned to make midi files sound like the real thing by inserting pedal marks, varying metronomes within a song, differing volumes, etc. Even embellishments like grace notes can be had. And of course, one can use multiple instruments simultaneously, percussions included. Such great software, this NWC. Once you mastered the keyboard shortcuts, notation is a breeze. And the trivial file size can easily be emailed or saved in your computer or CD's. You should try it. You'll be glad you did. Also very handy for composers and arrangers.
