I heard this story about two men out in the country on a nice, pretty day. They were rocking on the front porch just relaxing. One of the men had his hound dog beside him. As the men talked, the hound suddenly woke up and started to howl. He did this for a short time and then went back to sleep. The other man thought this was odd but didn't say anything at first and continued to talk. The hound then repeated the same outbreak of howling. This happened several times throughout the conversation until the man finally asked "what is wrong with your dog?!". The owner of the dog said casually, "oh he's just sitting on a tack". The man asked "well doesn't that hurt?". The owner replied, "I'm sure it does". Then why doesn't he just get up, the man asked? To that the owner said, "well with everything else about the day being so perfect I guess the tack just isn't hurting bad enough yet".
This analogy was given to me to describe people who complain about their jobs over and over but never do anything about it.
