Get Over the Common Cold in 4 Quick Ways

DJG08
Are you feeling unusually fatigued or experiencing the symptoms of the cold? It happens to all of us on occasion, so there is no need for you to feeling overly concerned about it. In spite of what you may hear or believe, the old remedies still work better in treating the common cold than any new medications or treatments.

1. Get plenty of sleep

When you have a cold sleep is one of the best things for you. When you are sleeping your body is able to build up strength and boost the immune system so that you can fight off the nasty germs that cause colds to infiltrate your body to start with. By getting enough rest your immune system has an opportunity to build up the body's natural defenses and thus prevent those germs from invading your body. Sleeping is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to get over the common cold quickly.

2. Feeling good mentally will help you feel good physically

When the body is tired and run down our mood tends to be one of negativity. When you are sick, a sour mood can make you feel even worse. Most people tend to become upset with themselves when they are sick because they are not able to do the things they would like to be doing which has a negative effect on the cold or infection thus making it appear much worse than it really is. We have to keep in mind that our illness is temporary and the rest of our life will be better. Instead of fretting about being sick, accept that you have been attacked by a cold germ and move forward in an effort to get rid of it. You may even want to take a nap to give your body some much needed rest and make yourself feel better.

3. Drink plenty of water

In order to allow the chemicals and nutrients to move easily throughout our body it is necessary to make sure we keep it hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Lack of hydration causes the body fluids to thicken and prevents them from performing their functions in an efficient manner. What this means when you have a cold is that all the mucus will remain inside of your body instead of being released as it would if your body was sufficiently hydrated and able to dilute the mucous into a thinner liquid. Drinking plenty of water is good for the body even when you are well as a preventive measure, and it will help you heal faster when you do succumb to the common cold.

4. Natural Cold Remedies

Instead of resorting to man-made drugs, you will have better luck with Mother's nature's remedies such as garlic, mushrooms and chicken broth. Both garlic and mushrooms are believed to have components that make their immune system boosters and natural antibiotics. Doctors are just beginning to see that our parents and grandparents were doing something right when they made us have chicken soup when we become sick. Many of the ingredients in chicken soup had the ability to stop neutrophils from moving. Neutrophils are white blood cells that cause the formation of the mucous that is responsible for cold symptoms such as coughs and stuffed up noses.

Keeping all of that in mind, if you do have a cold rest, maintain a positive attitude, drink plenty of water and rely on Mother Nature's natural remedies instead of prescription and over the counter medications that won't make you feel better any sooner.
