Get Paid for Your Opinion with Mock Jury Websites

Lori Voth
So, you are intrigued by all the promises you've seen about taking surveys to make money online. You want to know where you can sign up to get paid for your opinion.

While there are hundreds of legitimate paid survey sites where you can get paid for your opinion (and unfortunately, there are plenty of paid survey scam sites as well), this article will focus on a particular type of paid survey opportunity: Mock Jury Sites.

Mock Jury websites provide paid survey opportunities that specifically focus on legal matters. Often referred to as jury research, the market research firms which specialize in this kind of data collection appoint online jurors ("mock jurors") to discuss their opinions about real legal cases before they get to trial, as a means for their client to gain a better understanding of what to expect from a real jury.

If you are interested in becoming an online juror, you will need to fill out a registration form at the various paid mock jury sites you wish to work with. (Read Huge List of Paid Online Jury Opportunities: Get Cash for Your Opinion on Associated Content for a list of mock jury websites seeking online jurors). Some companies are more particular than others in terms of eligibility requirements but for all of them you must be a U.S. citizen aged 18 years or older to participate in their paid survey research opportunities. Some sites will also ask personal information; if you are not comfortable sharing your driver's license number or political party affiliation as well as various other detailed demographic information, you may find your chances to get paid as an online juror are more limited.

Once registered, you will then be notified by the online jury sites when a legal case becomes available that you are eligible to review. In most cases, the company is looking for people belonging to a certain demographic who live in the county where the trial is scheduled to take place.

You will then be expected to login to the mock jury website, review the details of the case, and provide your opinions. All sites have different ways of conducting this pre-trial research and compensation amounts tend to vary according to the length of study. Online jurors should expect, however, that the payment being offered as well as the estimated time commitment required will be disclosed in the initial invitation to participate for every study opportunity.

Finally, in order to maximize your chances of participation, it is wise to register for the jury sites with an email address that you check regularly. Keep in mind that an invitation to participate in a mock jury focus group does not guarantee the opportunity to do so. In most cases, more registered online jurors will be invited than are needed. Qualified jurors are then selected on a first come first served basis. Therefore, you should always try to log in to the study website as soon as you can after receiving a request to review an open case.
