Get Ready to Fax with the Samsung SF-560: Review

Brian Jones
When I started my own business, I made one mistake in my hardware purchase-I didn't buy an all-in-one printer that had fax capability. I was mad that I decided to get the best possible stand-alone fax machine that I could. I perused for hours at Circuit City and Best Buy. As I looked, I became more aware that a laser printing fax would be ideal. As I continued to browse, I decided that if I had a laser fax, then I wanted it to copy too. I sometimes have a need to copy enough documents that it justifies a laser printer, but it's not enough to justify a trip to Fedex Kinkos.

When all was said and done, I walked out of the store with a Samsung SF-560R. It's a little bigger than what I had originally intended, but very professional in design, appearance, and operation. This machine offers a nice set of features and runs smooth as silk.

The fax ability has a 3-second/page transmission speed at 33.6 Kbps and the copier produces 17 pages/minute. Not the fastest kid on the block, but more than adequate for my needs. There are several paper feeds on the SF-560R, including a multi-purpose single page feed, a 20-page automatic document feeder, and a 250-sheet cassette drawer. The toner is quickly and easily changeable in one step and a built-in battery backup will receive and store fax data for up to 96 hours.

Some of the other features include an 80 number speed dial and 20 one-touch buttons. If you are looking for economy, the SF-560R has a toner save feature that can extend the cartridge by up to 40% and is an energy star compliant device.

If you are familiar with the HP or Brother standard tabletop laser printers, this fax machine /copier looks very similar in appearance except with the additional phone handset on the side and the additional buttons and LCD screen on the top. It has a light grey color with dark grey sidewalls for a sharp contrasting appearance.

Samsung has always been a name to trust when it comes to electronics and this fax machine does not fail them in any way. If you have a home office or a business that requires heavy fax use, the SF-560R will not disappoint. I have used mine steadily without problem since I bought it. It sells online at www.amazon.com for $377.99 and can be found at your major electronics dealers as well.
