1. At least a week before Memorial Day, pull out the grill and utensils and begin the cleaning process. It is time to get it ready for use so make sure it is spotless.
2. You are sure to see the stores begin to advertise the fuel to get your grill cooking (i.e. coal, gas, etc.). So, it is time for you to hit the stores early before the prices start to increase. Start to stock up on what you need so you can be ready for the day.
3. Start planning your guest list early. Who would you like to visit your BBQ? Are there people you have not seen in awhile? Would you like to develop better relationships with coworkers? How about getting to know your neighbors better? Give some thought to who you would like at the BBQ and start spreading the word. Also, keep in mind that there may be some unexpected guests so have enough food just in case.
4. Be sure to review your guest list and gather special eating requirements. For example, determine if anyone has a food allergy and seek to adjust your menu according to this.
5. As you may be in charge of providing the main meats, feel free to ask your guests to provide side dishes and beverages. This helps to ensure that there will be a variety of morsels at your BBQ. Be sure to let people know approximately how many guests there will be so they can adequately plan as well. Also, to ensure there are no repeats of dishes (i.e. 5 people all bringing potato salad), provide suggestions of what to bring.
So, you have some ideas for the first steps to get you started at least a week or so prior to the BBQ. Planning your BBQ can ease your stress and let this be a relaxed and fun day. So, start preparing your list of things to do and spreading the word.
