For those who never heard of the comedic cartoon series, it revolves around Dr. Rusty Venture, his twin sons Hank and Dean, and their bodyguard Brock Samson. The show draws inspiration from cartoons like Jonny Quest, except everyone from Rusty to his inept "archenemy", the Monarch, is a failure at what they do. The Venture family often finds itself in weird, hilarious situations that parody the 1960's action cartoon. Since The Venture Bros. began airing in 2003, we have seen many of their strange adventures, from the twins dying at the end of the first season to it being revealed they are clones at the beginning of Season 2. They have fought mummies, fake ghost pirates and numerous super villains. Venture Bros. fans have always been treated to a quirky, smart show that is more than stand alone episodes. The show is a pop culture geek's dream with references ranging from Star Wars to Lydia Lunch and everything in between. EW.com recently named The Venture Bros. number 23on its list of the 25 Greatest Cult TV Shows.
Cliffhanger season endings have been a Venture Bros. standard, but nothing prepared us for the bombshells and surprises of the end of Season 3. Brock quit his job as the Venture bodyguard. Teasers and hints that he has a son, a new Season 3 character named Dermott, went unanswered. Brock will appear in Season 4.2, but under what circumstances is unknown. During the final battle of the season, Hank and Dean, who don't know they are clones, released all the "clone slugs" to help in the fight. Unfortunately, all of the clones were slain. How this is going to be dealt with should prove very interesting. A running joke in Venture Bros. was chronicling the many deaths of the accident prone boys. The most shocking cliffhanger is the death of one of the Monarch's often used henchman, 24. How his death will affect the Venture Universe is yet to be seen, but his fellow henchman and best friend, 21, will feel his absence the most.
At this year's Dragon*Con in Atlanta, 12 minutes of an upcoming episode, Handsome Ransom, was shown. While the clip is not available online, there is an article about it. Be warned, it contains some spoilers. Besides what the article reports, they are still many other unanswered questions, some of them may not be addressed until summer 2010. The Venture Bros fans are a patient bunch and we know the answers will be worth the wait.
