Expect to work. First of all, there are no legitimate work at home jobs where you will make millions working part-time or less. It is possible to find work-from-home opportunities, but working from home is just that...work. It's not a get-rich-quick scheme or free money. There are many people who successfully work from home. They are transcriptionists, closed captioners, general contractors, and even social workers. There are endless opportunities for legitimate work at home jobs, but they are all real jobs that require real work. Often, they require even more work than a traditional 9 to 5 job, because many are offered on a contract basis, and there is a need to constantly promote yourself to keep the work coming in.
Don't expect to find something easily. Lots of people want a work-from-home position, so even for legitimate positions, the competition is often fierce. The most important thing to remember is to put your best foot forward, and keep trying until you find something for yourself.
Don't expect to find easy work where you will become rich for doing almost nothing. The commercials on television and the banner ads on the internet which promise that you'll become rich in just hours a day are nothing but scams and lies. Don't waste your time with this stuff. If these were legitimate opportunities, wouldn't everyone be bailing out from their job to sit at home and watch the money roll in? The opportunities just don't make sense, and what is really telling is the fact that none of these advertisements ever say how they are making money. The commercials just show people in expensive houses or sitting by pools. If these were really legitimate opportunities, couldn't they reveal exactly what it is they are doing, or at the very least, what industry they are working in? They can't, because there is no specific industry other than the pyramid scheme industry.
Don't pay someone to be a member of anything. Going hand in hand with the point mentioned above, you should never pay anything to start a job, with the exception of your investment if you decide to start your own business. Be careful with companies that want money from you to start your own business as well. Many legitimate franchises require an initial investment, but if you are putting any kind of money on the line, make sure you know exactly what it is for and why you are paying it. Never pay some mysterious company an inexplicable $39.99 that is labeled as some kind of "fee" to start a business you know nothing about.
Expect an interview including questions about your qualifications. Most legitimate companies that offer work-from-home opportunities will want to discuss your qualifications, probably in a formal interview. There are very few legitimate work-at-home opportunities where you will sign up online and be working the next day. As mentioned above, work-from-home jobs are actual jobs, and no employer is going to want to hire someone just for filling out a form online.
Do something that makes you happy. Finally, remember to do something that makes you happy. There are plenty of sales jobs which can be performed from home, but this isn't the job for everyone. Make sure when you begin your work-at-home search, you have given careful thought to the type of job which will make you happy, and which you have the skill set for. I'd love to be a medical transcriptionist, but I have no experience in this area, so I would probably not be qualified. I'd love to make the money that some salespeople make, but sales makes me miserable. It is important for you to assess your own qualities and characteristics before accepting any job, even a work-at-home job.
