Finding a lump in your breasts is very scary but finding out that it is not cancerous is a huge relief. However, the relief quickly turns into aggravation when the lump gets larger and more tender or when additional lumps appear, especially during menstruation. And although you have the relief of knowing the lumps are harmless, it is a big pain to continue to have to deal with them. This condition is called fibrocystic breasts, which happens when tiny, fluid filled sacs form in the milk-producing glands of the breasts.
Instead of just living with the pain and irritation, women can change their diet to help keep the condition under control and get some relief. In fact, giving up some foods can help eliminate the lumps altogether giving you permanent relief from the condition. I use to love drinking soda. I could drink four or five cans a day, however, it never quenched my thirst and it only made me bloated but it also increased my chances of having fibrocystic breasts. So, if you drink lots of caffeine, tea, or dark-colored soda pop like coco cola, your breasts may be paying the price. These types of drinks contain a substance that causes lumps in the breasts to enlarge and become tender. The more caffeine, the tender your breasts become.
Statistics show that women who drink just two cups of coffee a day are 150 percent more likely to develop fibrocystic breasts than women who don't drink caffeine. Women who drink four cups of coffee a day, increase their chances by 230 percent. Women who stop drinking caffeine greatly reduce their chances of developing fibrocystic breasts, of course just like anything else, it will take a few months for the condition to get better, so don't expect instant results.
Saturated fat, the kind found in meats and dairy products, also cause fibrocystic breasts to develop. A high-fat diet causes estrogen levels to increase in the body, which increases the amount of lumps in the breasts. Cut down on the amount of saturated fat in your diet, but again, don't expect quick results. It takes at least three or four months for the high levels of estrogen to decrease in your body. Another way to reduce estrogen in your body and get some relief from tender breasts is to eat more fiber. Fiber helps to reduce the swelling and tenderness of the breasts. Some believe that vitamin E also helps reduce the pain of fibrocystic breasts because the vitamin stabilizes the hormone fluctuations in women, so it is probably helpful to take vitamin E supplements on a daily basis to get relief from fibrocystic breasts.
