Get Rid of Ants the Organic Way by Using Organic Pest Control

E.Tirratino
Ants are those pests that you can count on finding just about anywhere. When they invade your home foraging for food or looking for shelter, they become a real nuisance. If you need to get rid of ants but don't want to bring toxic pesticides into your home, you should try the organic pest control approach. If you have pets or children in your household you would benefit from using organic pest control because the methods will not harm them but will get rid of ants successfully.

The basic steps to get rid of ants are really simple. Be sure to remove all contributing attractants like food crumbs on counters and clean up spills on surfaces promptly. Ants are also attracted to water when it gets really hot, so fix leaky pipes and plumbing outside your home as well as inside under sinks. Also make sure to check that your garden hose is turned tightly off when you are not using it. If you have pets and their food bowls are on the floor, submerge the bowl into a wider container with a little water so that the ants can't get to the food. Another important thing to remember is to check your doors and windows to make sure that there are no cracks where the ants can crawl inside through.

Get rid of ants by discouraging them from settling in an area by using a small night light to illuminate where they congregate at night. If you do not have a night light you can also try repellants like garlic, cucumber peel, cloves or dry mint leaves. Salt will also do the trick.

If the above suggestions do not get rid of ants, you can try using cornmeal. When the ants ingest the cornmeal and then drink water, it expands in them and causes them to die.Another effective way to get rid of ants is to follow them to the point where they are coming from and then sprinkling any of the following at the entry area to their nest: cayenne pepper, lemon juice, cinnamon or coffee grounds.

Lastly, you can use a clove oil based ant killer to get rid of ants. It uses clove oil and diatomaceous earth as the active ingredients so it is also another great option when it comes to organic pest control.

It is easy to get rid of ants using organic pest control methods when you know what to use. You don't have to go out and spend a lot of money on toxic pesticides that don't work to get rid of ants for good.

I am trying the cornmeal today. I have just put it around the mounds and now comes the waiting game to see if it works.
