Get Rid of Exercise Pain

If you haven't exercised in a while, you know you're going to be sore after that first workout. And even if you are dedicated to the gym, there's a possibility that you'll get that after exercise ache every now and then. Here are a few way to deal with the pain.

It may be tempting to start exercising in a big way, but you'll enjoy it a lot more if you ease into a routine. And your muscles will thank you. If you're lifting weights, start with just a few reps each day and build up from there. Running? Don't go five miles the first day. And try to exercise on a regular basis. If you try to be a weekend warrior, but do nothing during the work week, your muscles will never get the hint.

You can avoid some of the next day pain with a few extra minutes of stretching. A warm up and a cool down are vital parts of an exercise routine, but one that people frequently skinp. For runners, walk fast for a few minutes before breaking into a trot. Working out at the gym? Do some easy stretches, but don't overdo it. Stretching cold muscles will only lead to aches and pains the next day. You can use some light weights to warm up you body. And after exercise is a great time to stretch. You may be itching to shower and get on with your day, but take the time for a cool down to help avoid pain the next day. Do some slow stretching that brings your heart rate back to normal.

If the soreness is too much to deal with, take some ibuprofen which is an anti-inflammatory. It takes about two full days for the ache to get to its worst point, which is probably why people say the third day is the worst. During this time, ibuprofen can give those painful muscles some relief.

A hot bath is another great way to get some relaxation to those achy muscles. Try soaking in a warm tub. If you can get a massage, you'll also get some enjoyable relief. A whirlpool tub can give you the hot bath and a light massage all wrapped into one. And try to keep exercising, even though you're sore. Light exercise is the best way to deal with the pain. So keep it up, and before long you'll forget you ever ached.
