Once again, the season are changing. It's almost time to trade in your bikini and flip flops for knee high boots and chunky sweaters. Similarly, your skin needs to go from summer skin products to products targeted towards fall skin issues. Think of it like changing your wardrobe for your skin. Here's what you need to know to get your skin ready for fall.
Fight sun damage. If you've spent any time at all out of doors, you probably have sun damage. Hopefully, you minimized damage by being oh-so faithful with your sunscreen. Look for products with retinoids, Vitamin C, glycolic acid, and anti-oxidants to help reduce the damage. Continue using your facial sunscreen to prevent further, day to day, damage.
Slough away old skin. The sun, the heat, and the summer fun can cause dead skin to keep hanging on. Your skin will look dull, lifeless, and old. Use a gentle exfoliant to remove all that dead skin and reveal a fresher, more youthful glow. Try a home based microdermabrasion kit or even a daily facial scrub. While you're at it, slough off the dead skin on elbows, knees, and heels, too. For a quick and easy body scrub, mix brown sugar and olive oil. Rub it on any dry, scaly patches in the shower and rinse off for soft, beautiful skin. Just be careful not to slip!
Fend off dryness. The cooler, dryer air of fall causes many women to get dry skin patches. Use an anti-aging moisturizer on your face. Don't forget to moisturize the rest of you, too. Try a targeted body lotion for anti-aging, cellulite, or bronzing. Drug store carry great moisturizers for any skin type.
Banish Bacne. Acne can show up in the worst places, including your face, chest, and back. Summertime especially is prime time for bacne to make an unwanted appearance. Sweat and dirt get trapped under swimsuits, tanktops, and t-shirts causing bacteria to grow and infect your skin. Try a body scrub or toner with salicylic acid to banish bacne and restore clear, healthy skin. If over the counter products don't work, see a dermatologist for stronger cures.
Fix your feet. Flip-flops are fun and sandals look great, but both can cause callouses and thick spots to form on your feet. Treat yourself to a pedicure, or make a minimal investment in a pumice stone. Taking a minute in the shower to scrub your feet with the pumice stone will help your feet feel soft and beautiful again. For even better results, slather your tootsies with lotion at bedtime and cover them up with soft, cotton socks.
