Stripes:
Where Nautical goes, stripes will follow. Traditionally, the stripes are thin navy stripes on white, but you can also wear red or orange stripes. Although, you might end up looking a little more French than sailor!
Try sailor stripes on anything; bags, purses, shoes, headbands, clothes. You must be careful with these tricky stripes, because horizontal stripes can make you look wider. If you're worried about this, thick wide stripes will lessen the effect. A Forever 21 Sailor Stripe Tank top is not only adorable, it's only $5.80!
Rope:
Believe me, you can use rope on just about any accessory. Try a rope belt, necklace, bracelet or use rope as the handles of a handbag. Use a rope belt to cinch in your waist on an everyday outfit, or on a striped dress for a very nautical feel. Rope bracelets look very cute and sailor style, and it's so simple to make your own.
Anchors:
Anchors look adorable on anything, whether it be on patterned clothes or jewelery. I love tiny little anchor necklaces or charm bracelets. Jewelery is very versatile and unnoticeable, so wear these lovely little anchors with any outfit. I think anchors earrings look better if they're long dangly earrings, but anchors studs can work well if you've got a thin or long face.
Shorts:
Because you're not going to wear pants on a cruise, are you? Nautical shorts are usually high-waisted, or have a high cuff. Or both! Long, loose tops should always be tucked into high-waisted shorts, otherwise you won't be able to see them. High-waisted shorts look best on people with a defined waist and who have a long body, otherwise you might look shorter. But if you love these shorts, just wear a belt to define your waist and high heels to cheat height.
Other nautical accessories include floppy sailor bows (probably not appropriate for everyday dressing!), white rimmed sunglasses and anything red! To add a final touch to your sailor outfit, try red lips or nails. With these tips, you'll be able to pull off that modern nautical look without looking like an over-enthusiastic sailor!
