Getting Advice from Other Moms on Babycenter Birth Clubs

Colleen Starr
When I was pregnant with my fourth child I didn't realize at first, how essential advice from other moms can be. Most of my pregnancy advice came from mothers I met on the Babycenter June 2007 birth board. On Babycenter we shared support, encouragement and gave one another advice.

Some of the most memorable advice I received was from a group of women who were all trying to naturally induce labor. I was full term, uncomfortably pregnant and desperate to have my daughter, Brenda convinced me I needed to go to the park and swing. She started her labor by swinging and in desperation I gave it a try. I took all 3 of my other kids to the park just so I could try swinging to induce labor. The swinging did not work but I know it must have been a hilarious sight to see for onlookers. I also got advice to try evening primrose oil to induce labor. My doctor gave me the okay and I started taking evening primrose oil nightly. I am not 100% sure if it helped but I did dilate very fast. I did end up being induced but, by the time I got to the hospital I was 6 cm dilated. I sent messages to the baby center birth board while I was in labor from my phone.

I have also gotten great advice from my mom (a mother of five children), and my sisters. Every time I have a parenting situation that I need help with, they are always a phone call away. Sometimes the best advice I get is when my mom just doesn't say anything. Her silence can speak volumes to me.
