Getting All-Natural in Pittsburgh

Jenna Lee
Do you shop, or would you like to shop all-natural? Do you live in the Pittsburgh area? If so, here's a guide to three local natural-food grocers who really deliver on quality and nutrition.

Right By Nature
This grocer is located in the Strip District at 2305 Smallman Street. I shop here frequently when visiting that area. They have a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, organic produce, deli meats, a scrumptious and colorful salad bar and a wonderful selection of vegetarian/vegan products. They also have an aisle for bulk grains, fruits, nuts, etc. that you scoop and pour to purchase the amount you want - and at bulk price.

Eden's Market
Not only does this store carry all-natural and organic foods, but they specialize in gluten-free products. Every time I go in there, the store owner gives me his speech on how they are a member of the celiac foundation and help those that have a gluten intolerance. Great guy and an awesome store. There always seems to be a special on the vitamins too - I only purchase vitamins from Eden's Market as they are 100% food based. Other vitamins, such as something you would find at a "regular" grocery store, are made up with additives and chemicals, so they do not absorb like the 100% food based vitamins do. This store is located in Uptown Mt. Lebanon at 99 Alfred Street.

Whole Foods
This is the giant of all-natural and organic groceries located at 5880 Centre Ave in Pittsburgh. And it should be because it is an amazing experience that delivers quality food and service every time I go. I am very fond of their salad bar, hot food bar and their freshly prepared sushi. My husband and I go there for dates and with friends all the time. There is a nice eat-in area where you could make a lunch or dinner get-together out of it. I have tried a lot of Sushi places in Pittsburgh, and I am confident enough to say that this ties for my first place spot, ever. I always get the brown rice California roll. Not only is the sushi itself the freshest and best tasting I have ever had, but the ginger, wasabi and soy sauce is out of this world.

I hope this answers all of your questions on all-natural food shopping in the Pittsburgh area. Enjoy!
