1. Talk with your spouse. Let him or her know what your business plans are and what type of help you will need from them such as help with the kids, help maintaining the household, help running errands, etc.
2. Chose a closed off space in your home where you feel you will be most productive. Once chosen make your family aware that when you are in your work space you should not be disturbed.
3. If you have children that are old enough to understand what you are trying to do, share with them the details of what you are doing. Doing so will help then to understand a little better of how your time will be spent throughout the day and they won't feel like you are neglecting them.
4. If you have teens as well as younger children, have them help out with entertaining the little ones. This works well because in most households, the younger children want to follow the older children and do whatever their doing so this gives them time to bond.
5. Take advantage of after school programs. These programs and extra curricular activities really come in handy when you need quiet time at home. So find some fun activities that your kids can have outside of your home.
6. If your spouse is interested, let him or her get involved in what it is that you do. It is amazing with married couples get together and decide to go into business together. That the true essence of a "power couple."
7. Have other family members come by and give you guys a helping hand. Grandparents can spend time with the children, your friends can run errands for you while you are busy, your husband can help with preparing lunch and dinner, etc. Allow your family to network to make things happen!
8. Schedule time specifically for family time. Now I know you can probably get really into your work, but you have to always make time for the family. It may work out better for you if you work during the day while the kids are at school and your spouse is away at work, that way you will have time to spend with the family in the evenings when everyone is at home.
9. Allow the older children to help you with your work. Allowing your children to help you with some of the tasks that you do is great for teaching your older children some worth ethics. And while teaching them that little lesson you will receive that much needed assistance with naturally relieves your of certain stresses.
These are all great ways to get your family use to the idea of you working from home and it also gives the family an important roll with your work at home business.
