Getting a Job at UPS

Begin Your Career With the United Parcel Service Today

The United Parcel Service, or UPS, is a great place to work. It could be tough to get a job at UPS, though, but once you're in, you've got it made until you retire, with a great health plan, stock purchasing options and much more.

The first thing you'll need to do to get a job at UPS is have a copy of your diploma and make sure you're drug-free when you go in for an interview. You will be drug tested if they consider you for the job.

Be prepared to work in a no-nonsense, strict and rigid environment where a structured attitude is a requirement. UPS has a reputation for running a tight ship where goofing around and playing jokes simply isn't tolerated.

Look for openings online and send in your electronic application. Prepare to take a lengthy written test as well as a physical test for the intended position. If you'll be in sales, for example, you'll be required to perform a scripted phone sales routine. You might be interviewed by a local boss, a regional boss and maybe even others. Overall testing - paper, oral or otherwise - can be 5 hours or more.

Present an organized, clean and ready-to-learn attitude during the interview. Also be prepared to answer many personal questions. You'll be given quite a few "skills assessment" tests to see if you've mastered things like spelling, punctuation, memorizing rates or whatever the intended job will be requiring you to know.

Don't expect to get hired if you've ever been arrested for a serious crime, including theft, assault, driving under the influence or drug charges.

UPS has somewhat of a reputation for firing people that can't perform one hundred percent at all times. Hard, dedicated work is a definite requirement for any of their positions.

Although UPS has strict regulations you'll climb the ladder if you fail to miss any days of work, do not only what is asked of you but even more and give the ultimate respect to each and every worker.

Jokes not tolertated hhahaha I work at UPS part time and its like a prison, its run by drug dealers literally and you will be treated like dirt by almost everyone in management, you skills arent valued at all(dont even get me started on the union). Management has even told me if UPS were to drug test they would lose 90% of their work force. If you have a college degree get a job somewhere where its valued. Other wise if you only have a HS diploma, 8 kids from 9 different whores, cant pass a drug test, and are willing to do anything for a check some decent health care and a retirement fund and a job that tolerates rampant drug use then this place is for you. Apply, start kissing ass, keep doing it for 40 years and you have got it made. I work their now but as soon as im done with college im outta their

Thank you for your positive comment about UPS... I am testing now for the position with this great company. I am a regular customer, but always wanted to work for UPS... Thank you for having real work ethics. I am looking forward to this opportunity and will enjoy the hard work because the company is stable and they offer benefits how cool is that? Thanks again... :)

Don't kid yourself with this posts or these people supporting UPS. I work there and can tell you that they DO NOT DO DRUG TESTS. They fire and lay off regularly right after the holiday season, and the pay rate is very, very low, and not even the worth the work you're doing.
Supervisors and managers will take credit for your work and blame you when they screw up, trust me.

First I would like to clarify a few things about UPS. UPS is one of the most stable jobs any person that is not lazy could have. It is hard work, that is not a lie, however with patience you will be entitled to paid benefits that is not withdrawn from your checks every week like other jobs. The other good thing about UPS is you can work your way up the ladder if you are a hard working person. Please beaware of workers that complain too much, because they did not stay there for 10+ years for nothing. These people are miserable with their own lives not UPS. It is simple to say: if the heat is too hot, get out! I have been working for UPS for some time now and I have had my days but it takes a strong minded person to handle the labor and responsibility that is expected. If you are considering working for this company make sure you go in with a positive attitude and patience. Expect to show yourself and not be expecting UPS to show themselves because they already have won. This is why UPS i

I work there by the way.

UPS does not drug test for ANY jobs except semi drivers.

Obviously the writer has never worked at UPS and knows nothing of what he is talking about. Hard work will get you no where and sucking up will get you every where. There is no accountability for the supervisors or TM. They lie to your face and when they get caught they swear they didn't say that. Everyone at the terminal I worked at hated their job and still do to this day. Seniority meant nothing to mgmt. I'm thankful I'm no longer there!

To many people complain now days, and are lazy. Be satisfied with what you got or go without. Remember you went looking for UPS, -
UPS didn't come looking for you. Being happy is a choice. Do your job, be honest, and you will succeed. Success is not based on how much money you make, success is based apon the problems you solve rather than the problems you create for others.........
