Getting kids to get clean can be challenging at times. Getting kids to bathe is more trying when they are between the ages of three to six. Let's look at some fun ways to persuade kids to want to get clean.
Scented Sanitizer
impelling kids to get clean with scented sanitizer sounds simple and it is. My four year old loves cleaning her hands with lavender scented hand sanitizer. I give her the choice of washing with soap (which she chooses when she has a boo boo on her hand) or hand sanitizer.
Foaming Soap
Kids are intrigued by foaming hand soap. Purchase foaming hand soap in colors and scents that your child likes. My four year old is mesmerized by colored soaps that are different from what we regularly use.
Foaming soap is fun in the bathtub too. Try a foaming soap made for the tub such as Mr. Bubble Foam Soap. Foam soap is so captivating that when I was a child I thought it was a toy rather than soap. I would spray it on top of the water and watch it float.
Shaving Cream
That's right, let them get into the shaving cream. Allow children to finger paint with shaving cream and watch it float in the bathtub. Shaving cream has the same fun effects as foam soap.
Melting Ice cubes
The bathtub is the perfect place to play with ice cubes. Allow kids to place ice cubes into the tub and watch them magically melt. My four year old loves melting ice cubes and watching them shrink before her eyes.
Ice Pop Eating
Kids love to eat ice pops but they can be messy. Allowing your child to eat an ice pop in the bathtub persuades them to get in. It also avoids a mess on tables, hands, faces and floors.
Bathtub Crayons and Finger Paints
Buying bathtub crayons and finger paints is a fun way to encourage clean fun in the tub. Kids can use their imagination creating masterpieces while getting clean. Children are entertained with their water craft and you are relieved they want to get clean, everyone wins.
Keep Bath Toys New and Exciting
Bath toys are a no-brainer but you need to keep bath toys new and interesting. Kids will get bored with their tub toys so purchase new ones now and again or have a swap with friends. After cleaning swapped toys with bleach and water you have bathtub toys that are fresh and exciting.
Color Changing Fun
Bath toys that change colors with warm or cold water are amusing. One such toy is the Disney Princess Bath Beauty Ariel Doll. Even something simple such as a mood ring can serve as color changing bath fun, depending on the age of the child. Another fun idea if you have girls is to paint their nails with mood nail polish. Allow them to watch as the color changes from light to dark, then back again.
Learning in the Bathtub
Why not learn while getting clean in the bathtub? Purchase foam letter or numbers that stick to bath tub walls. My daughter had these when she was two years old and spent many minutes playing with them.
Pamper Them
When my 13 and 10 year old were younger they loved getting in the tub to be pampered. Giving them candy, toys and bubbles made getting clean feel more like a spa party.
As always, keep small objects away from children ages three and under as they can pose as a choking hazard. Have fun getting your kids to want to get clean!

Post a CommentMy son loved to take baths. However, he watched that Sponge Bob episode where Gary refuses to get in the bathtub - now it is a battle of wills. I will definitely try these out and see if he will be more agreeable.
