Getting to Know the Desperate Housewives

Marsha J
Desperate Housewives started as a superb show and keeps getting better because it has comedy, mystery, murder and dirty laundry; all the good things you want to see in a show such as this one. This TV drama centers on the lives of five housewives who are desperate in their own way.

Susan Mayer brings the most comedy to this TV show as she can't cook without having a major disaster and she's a walking klutz. Susan is also divorced, raising a teenage daughter and in later episodes she is in love with two men.

Bree Vandercamp is now Mrs. Hodge as she is now remarried after her husband was killed by her would be stalker. Bree is attempting to raise two teenagers who are both evil in their own way and she seems to be the perfect wife with the perfect life as long as you don't look too closely. Bree managed to start her life over again after the death of her husband when she married Orson Hodge. Her husband was a wonderful man, her son was no longer a psychopath and her daughter was just...there. Unfortunately the blissful new marriage quickly went down the drain as Bree's new husband brought a lot of old baggage with him that included Susan Mayer's almost fiancée Mike, Orson's psychotic mother, a crazy wife, a mysterious bag of teeth and a dead body. Did I mention that Orson Hodge is a dentist?

Lynette Scavo was once a hard working ad executive until she became a stay at home with a wagon of children who drove her to take ADD pills just to stay sane. In season two she went back to work as her husband stayed home and in season three they both own and run a pizzeria. All is not happy in their home however as Lynette seems drawn to their new chef.

Gabrielle Marquez is the self centered and overly spoiled ex-model who had it all. She had a wonderful husband, gorgeous house, money, clothes and a horrible marriage. Now separated, Gabrielle and her husband Carlos both have new people in their lives but on Wisteria Lane, how long will these relationships last?

Edie Britt is the town tramp as well as local real estate agent. She cares for nothing and no one but herself and have come to blows with Susan Mayer more than once as their lives have crossed paths. Susan accidentally set her house on fire so Edie purposely burned down Susan's and smiled from across the street. In more recent episodes we have come to see another side of Edie as we learn that she has a young son. Edie is not much of a mother but you get the feeling that it is from lack of experience and that she does love her son as she tries to fight for custody.

With lives like these everyday on Wisteria Lane is a strange, compelling and hilarious mystery just waiting to be solved.
