Getting Married Multiple Times After Eloping Works for Speidi; What About You?

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag Keep on Having Weddings; Did You Miss the Bus when You Didn't Elope?

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag - known to hardcore fans as Speidi - are getting married again and again. What is eloping, do weddings after eloping make sense and should you consider getting married while on the lamb yourself?

More Speidi Weddings after Eloping

After initially eloping to Cabo San Lucas and setting the gossip mags afire with their antics, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag of Speidi fame held a second wedding in Pasadena. It incidentally also became part of The Hills. Now there is talk about more weddings.

This time they are getting married again because of the presence of an undesired guest at wedding #2. The Hollywood Gossip reveals that Heidi Montag has fallen in love with walking down the aisle in gorgeous wedding attire and after eloping, this might be a great reason to keep on staging and celebrating weddings.

What is Eloping?

Eloping generally referred to a bride and groom running away from a lengthy engagement (or disapproving parents) with the express purpose of getting married. In the past, this could have referred to getting married in adjacent states where ages of consent were lower or holding weddings at vacation locales and then presenting families with the fait accompli.

Romance novel aficionados may be familiar with the old English eloping custom of rushing off to Scotland's Gretna Green. It became ground zero for Brits not willing - or able -- to abide by the rules of Lord Hardwicke's Marriage Act.

Modern day Americans discover eloping to be a commercialized venture that makes getting married more exciting. There are actually wedding businesses that specialize in setting up eloping couples with complete wedding packages.

The Eloping Business ... New Part of the Wedding Industry

Websites, such as Let's Run Off and Groom Groove specialize in helping couples plan weddings that include eloping. These outfits make getting married without much family involvement and the usual trappings involved in weddings a desirable and economic alternative.

Believe it or not, there is actually an etiquette guide on eloping! After you elope and the vows are irrevocably said, it is suggested to send out wedding announcements - as opposed to invitations - and perhaps plan a small reception after the fact. You may even rely on the old fashioned wording that suggests "the new Mr. and Mrs. X will be at home to friends and family members starting ...".

Should You Elope?

Since legal issues rarely send couples eloping anymore, those that do choose to elope do so to get back to the business of getting married as opposed to planning weddings, pouring over guest lists and dealing with the drama associated with well planned nuptials that include multiple families and in-laws. It is an attractive back to basics approach that also has the advantage of easing the strain on the budget.

If you are sure about getting married and have sought plenty of earnest counsel during your dating relationship and with respect to tying the knot, an elopement wedding can be a great alternative to hosting a big, stressful party. Yet beware! Should you fear repercussions from your in-laws, eloping will generate more stress between you and your future mother in law than planning weddings could ever produce.

I technocily eloped with both my previous and current marriages. My first one was [lanned but at the last minute. We had six guests (which ended up being with two, the other left either for work or for medical conditions). And with my current husband, he kept wanting to now how much it would cost to get a lisence to marry. I repeatedly said $25 but he insisted we go check it out (he had an idea he wasn't telling me) and when we got there, he just turned to me and asked, "How about we just do it since we're here." And so on it went. Of course we couldn't stop laughing during vows becuase we were both nervous and still remembering about the night before when I had really bad hiccups. My husband thought it was funny. And then to make matters funnier, the Jutics-Of-The peace said at the end, "And if your gonna fight, fight in the nude." We do want to have an actual small wedding but aren't in a hurry for it.

Seems like a big waste of money all around. Practical me says buy some poor family dinner or something.

I don't know about Speidi but confess I almost wish one of my offspring would elope. Arranging a marriage (the flowers, the place, etc) is stressful! Maybe I ought to drop this article within their sight. But I won't.
