Getting Motivated to Exercise

How to Get Motivation to Exercise for Good!

Lyn Vaccaro
For me exercise is not an option. I have to put it in my life as much as I have to eat. I guess I've made it a priority over the years and now it's so much a part of my life, I really couldn't be without it. There are those times though where I've gotten into a bit of a slump and needed some help getting motivated to exercise to keep myself on track. Here are a few of the things I've implemented over the years to assist me in this regard.

Exercise with the Kids

This is not only motivating but fun. When I get my kids involved in some exercise with me, I'm never disappointed and I always feel better. As a runner I've gotten them to do that with me, or sometimes it's been a video to follow along with them to. Whatever exercise routine we get involved in doesn't really matter because we're motivating each other to keep going. I find it works very well.

Set a Daily Time

I do well with a daily set time that I exercise at everyday. Usually early mornings work very well for me, but that may not work for everyone. Find a time that you feel comfortable with and get moving everyday at that time. I find that once I've accomplished my exercise for the day, I'm in a better frame of mind to carry out the rest of my commitments.

Take a Class

A lot of people find that they are more motivated to exercise if their involved in a class that keeps a the group focused on whatever mode of exercise it may be. Whether it's yoga, aerobics, or swimming, if you're more inclined to exercise with the help of a teacher and others around you than without those things, by all means get your daily workout that way. Whatever it takes.

Look in the Mirror

I've done this on days that I can't seem to muster the exercise bug in myself. I'm either happy with what I see and want to keep it that way, or the opposite may be true, especially if I've gained a few pounds. Either way, I find that it's not too difficult to become revved up to do move my body after doing that.

You may find that you are more comfortable with other ways of getting yourself moving. Whatever gets you motivated isn't as important as actually doing it, so find something that you can count on to get you going, and you'll be moving in no time.
