Getting Pregnant: 6 Signs of Ovulation

Karen Cook
Getting pregnant should be fun and care-free, right? Sadly, for many couples it just isn't that easy. You want to have a baby more than anything. It's all you can think about. So you keep trying. And you'll get to know everything about ovulation. That's what it all comes down to.

6 Signs Of Ovulation

1. Cervical mucus will change

As ovulation draws near, the mucus will become more abundant. Instead of being creamy and sticky like the rest of the month, it will take on a more watery texture. Go ahead. Test for yourself.

2. Sexual desire increases

This is nature at its best. As ovulation approaches, women want more sex! Or maybe they just watched a sexy movie?

3. Body basal temperature changes

The hormone progesterone causes a rise in temperature. This is the most popular method of tracking. Unfortunately, this will only tell you that ovualtion has passed. This could be why your neighbor pushed you out of the way as she raced for a cab to rush across town to her partner.

4. Position of cervix changes

The cervix will become higher, softer and more open. Okay. I can't say as I've ever noticed that in myself. Guess I wasn't looking for it. But it's something you may want to consider checking out.

5. Tender breasts

Everyone is different. Some women only have breast tenderness at ovulation. I would have sore breasts before, during and after my period. Or when it became cloudy. Go figure.

6. Ovulation Predictor Test kit

This can become rather expensive. You have to pee on a stick once a day, for one week, prior to when you expect to ovulate! Oy!

Now as you can imagine, checking on these signs can drive anyone crazy. And the more concerned you are with watching for all changes, the more stressed you'll become. And stress is a no-no when trying to conceive. If anything, you'll get to know your body better, which will help.

Of course, every woman is different. Some will have all these changes and some may not notice much of anything. As in all things, see your doctor...
