A new definite summer track has hit the airways in the form of Nelly Furtado's new single "Promiscuous." The song, which features producer impresario Timbaland, boasts a "she said, he said" type of playful banter between the two, rapping on whether or not to hook up with each other or someone else.
The song is infectious with its sizzling backbeats and engrossing lyrics. Furtado says, "I feel like I get it. I'm OK with being sexy if I feel like it. Some days I'm brainy, some days I'm funny, some days I'm sexy, and sometimes, I just want to dance." All of which has inspired her to find "womanhood" and come out with a single like this after an absence from music.
Some "Promiscuous" lyrics, Nelly sings "You expect me to let you just let you hit it/But will you still respect me if you get it" to which Timbaland concurs "All I can do is try, gimme one chance/What's the problem I don't see no ring on your hand."
"Promiscuous" is a playful duet, relying mostly on the chemistry of words and beats that both Nelly and Timbaland found easy to collaborate on, although the dancing wasn't as trouble-free. Furtado says that Timbaland wasn't too pleased with her self-described, "British Columbia hippie rave dance" and would yell, "'Stop! You're offbeat! Stop dancing! You're throwing me off!" Nelly finally found her beat, and with some help from Timbaland and friends, she says she can now shake her "booty properly."
The simple message of the song is that people can relate to when meeting others, "It's that whole dance that goes on," Furtado said. "There's that mystery there, the fun, playful sexiness, the verbal Ping-Pong game. A lot of people can relate to that."
Listen to "Promiscuous" heat up the airwaves on the radio now, meanwhile the rest of Nelly Furtado's album "Loose" will be in stores June 20th.
