Yes, Christmas has come and gone. You're enjoying your gifts and spending those gift cards and gift certificates. You have rushed to the mall to take advantage of all those great after Christmas sales. You probably haven't given one thought to next year's holiday. Why should you? It's over 300 plus days away. The truth is however, it's never to early to start saving for next year's Christmas holiday. So many people spend their holiday unhappy about the amount of money they have to spend, but if you plan early, you can avoid such stress and make the holiday so much more enjoyable. Here are a few tips to get you started.

Write it down. So many people overlook this basic step. Before you can start shopping or even saving you need to know what your saving for. Think about all the people you will need or want to buy for next Christmas. Then think about how much money you want to spend on each person. Write that number down and then determine the total. Make sure to talk with your spouse and be in agreement on who your buying for and how much are you going to spend. Writing all this down may seem a little elementary, but you will be surprised how it will help you save and prepare for the upcoming Christmas.

Save a little every month. Christmas comes the same time every year. It's no secret! Don't wait until November to start getting ready. Saving just a few dollars every month could help you to have a nice stash of money to spend once Black Friday rolls around. Just think about it, if you saved 25 dollars a month you would have $300 dollars by December. Most of you can afford that! Double that amount to 50 dollars a month and you know have 600 dollars. Stick your money in an envelope some where. Also many banks have Christmas accounts that you can set up to automatically take money out of your pay check and save it for the holiday. This option is great because the money is taken out of your check and you really won't even miss it!

Shop throughout the year. It turns out my wife is really pretty smart! I used to hear her talk about things she was buying for Christmas in the middle of summer. We would be on vacation and she would spend extra money on Christmas gifts. At the time I thought "How silly," but boy was I wrong. When Christmas rolled around she already had half of her shopping done. This is an excellent idea and I highly recommend it. During the year when you see things for family and friends that you think they would enjoy buy them! Your holiday will be so much more relaxing as you will be less concerned about shopping.

Intensify savings during the last quarter of the year. Once September rolls around you've got to step up your 'savings' game. Start putting away more than that monthly amount you''ve been saving all year. Think about sacrifices that you can make so that you can save more money. Avoid eating out. Don't shop for yourself during this time. Christmas is around the corner so you can get what you want then. Limit going out to movies and clubs or any other place you go for entertainment. Making such sacrifices will help you develop a nice stash of cash for Christmas.

Stay focused and determined while following the above steps. It won't always be easy, but it can be done. When Christmas gets here, you will be glad you stuck with the plan!
