- Don't open your door to random people, always check or ask who it is.
If you're going to be in your dorm or apartment during the night by yourself then it's best that you don't open the door without checking to see who it is first. This will help you to avoid opening the door to random people who you don't know, or to people who might be drunk and just looking for trouble. If your dorm door doesn't have a peep hole you should try asking who it is or not asking or opening the door at all. If you're expecting someone have them announce themselves when they knock the door.
- Advise your roommate of your plans and know where your roommate is going to be at.
If you plan on going out to a party, get together, dance, or any other function after dark during Halloween the best thing you can do is let people know where you're going to be at. You should call your parents and advise them of your plans and you should also keep your roommate informed of what you're going to be up to. Letting your roommate know your plans can ensure that someone will know you're missing if you don't happen to return that night at all. Leave them your home phone number and a number where they can try to contact you that night in case of an emergency. Tip: If you're the roommate that will be staying in that night try to stay alert in case something happens to your roommate and she/he needs you to contact 911 or their families.
- Get costumes in advanced.
Are you going to be dressing up this Halloween for a party or to give candies to anyone who comes to your dorm or apartment? Well if you are then you should start looking for costumes as early as possible. Usually places like Party City who sell costumes run out of the best ones really quick. They also run out of a lot of sizes during the first couple of weeks of October. If you are going to be making your costume it's best to have it ready to go at least a week before the holiday to avoid being in a hurry to make it that day and perhaps you'll lose concentration for a test or an essay that will be due.
- Plan to be at a place where you know someone.
If you are going to be going out to a club, party, dance, or to a house for a get together make sure to go with someone you know or to at least know someone who's going to be there. Going to places on this night alone is not only dangerous, but it will not be much fun. Hanging out with perhaps your roommate or a group of close friends this night is the best thing you can do. If you're going to go to a place where you don't know anyone the only thing you're doing is risking yourself and you could have regrets of things that happen the day after.
- Don't drive to a place where you might get lost at.
Driving during Halloween night is something that you should avoid doing, unless it's necessary and you can't avoid it. If you're going to be going out to a party with friends it's best that you carpool with someone who knows the city well, who has good eye visions, and who will not be doing anything illegal such as driving under the influence of anything. If you definitely have to drive and you don't know the city so well make sure to have people's numbers, your cell phone, or directions on paper so that you don't have to pull over into a store or to the side of the road too late at night.
