Getting Ready for Survivor Heroes Versus Villains

Let's Get Ready to Rumble

Jason Gallagher
To be completely honest when I heard the next phase of Survivor was going to feature Heroes Versus Villains, I was somewhat dumbstruck. It seems that when the game is played by people who have been there before things tend to get sewn up pretty quickly. That being said it is great to see some familiar faces back on television, and while there I some members of the cast I could have lived without, admittedly they played their respective games very well.

In case you have not heard yet the cast includes the following previous Survivor Cast members according to CBS.com : Amanda Kimmel, Candice Woodcock, Cirie Fields, Benjamin "Coach" Wade, Colby Donaldson, Courtney Yates, Danielle DiLorenzo, James Clement, Jerri Manthey, James "JT" Thomas Jr., Parvati Shallow, Randy Bailey, Rob Mariano, Rupert Boneham, Russell Hantz, Sandra Diaz, Stephenie LaGrossa, Jessica "Sugar" Kipper, Tom Westman, and Tyson Apostol. Cbs has provided without a doubt a colorful and good looking cast to say the least. The Survivor website will provide some great and insightful information throughout the season.

The best part of the Heroes Versus Villains format is of course most of these competitors are or were fan favorites from past shows. Though the inclusion of several players who are master manipulators should present quite a few hits to several egos, depending on how the tribes get divided there is the chance for several power plays by great players. Another great point, is the inclusion of several great physical type players. This will keep one player from dominating the challenges.

Of course, it would not be Survivor without a twist or two, and I for one am eagerly awaiting the twists and turns that will be thrown at these people. No matter who is a villain and who is a hero there is something very fun about watching people deal with a sudden surprise or turn of events, especially players many people already have an emotional attachment to.

So what about handicapping the odds? Who is going to win? Who has the best chance? Who will be first out? We will have to wait and see about that, but I would never bet against James Clement. Number one, he is my all time favorite Survivor cast member. Secondly, he has hopefully learned to play the Immunity Idol when he has the chance. Of course, Russel Hantz always seems to have several rabbits stuffed in that hat of his, the only question is how many will he pull out at once? Still, underestimating any of the competitors on this, the twentieth season of Survivor could be hazardous to anyones game. I can not wait until February the 11th, this should be one of the best editions of this show ever.
