Getting Rid of an Unbearable Sour Milk Smell in Your Car

Kennedy
Summer's here and it's time for a road trip. However, you may find that you have an awful sour milk smell in your vehicle which you can't get out. This will deter you from staying in your car for very long when nothing else will. Often, stains and smells are even more difficult to get out of your vehicle than anywhere else. You may not know how the milk was spilled, maybe your kids did it, or you went grocery shopping and forgot to get the gallon of milk. Who knows, but there is a way to get that terrible smell out of your car for good so that you can stand staying in it as long as you please. There are the chemical options of which you can go to the store and buy while possibly using some type of cleaning device. Some may decide not to try and deal with it themselves and want a professional to clean it. There are household items that you can use that will remove just about any type of bad smell from fabrics that you can think of. Your best bet is to use something safe and effective that won't cause a worse stain to develop in your vehicle. This is especially true if you may want to trade in or sell your car later on down the line. A car is like your second home, most people spend just about as much time in their cars as they do at home. The options provided should serve you well to solve the problem that sour milk causes in high temperatures. So give them a try, you may just be sold afterward.

If you have a carpet cleaner or want to rent one in order to try and get the smell out, it is a good idea if the milk has been spilled over a pretty large area and soaked in. Once you have the carpet shampooer, then you can add your cleaning solution of choice. Really bad spills may require pretreating and then several cleanings. There are quite a few carpet and upholstery cleaners on the market today. Resolve, Spot Magic, and Bissel makes a cleaning solution for fabrics that are popular which come in liquid and foam sprays. Anyone who doesn't want to have to tackle the problem them self might opt to take it to either a dealer or a local car detail to attempt getting out the soured smell.

Some of the best remedies found are most likely located in your cabinet where you keep your household cleaners or laundry aids. New coffee grounds are known to reduce odor and absorb smells, especially when left on the spot overnight. You can clean stains on all types of surfaces with a baking soda and water solution. Baking soda takes in odors very well, and if the milk is especially bad, you may want to sit a pile of it on overnight. Distilled vinegar works on pet stains as well as any other kind. Scrubbing the milk stains with a vinegar and water mix most likely will rid you of the sour smell. However, you will then have a vinegar smell that will take time to go away. The best solution so far is that of borax (used as a laundry detergent) and water to scrub out the terrible milk scent. Orange and lemon oil based cleaners may be used to follow up in giving a good smell to the vehicle, but they do a very good job of cleaning almost anything up without staining. So your best alternative would be to let an odor absorber sit overnight, then clean vigorously with one of the solutions listed, air your vehicle out, then apply something clean smelling and possibly air fresheners

Great ideas. I also read about an activated carbon odor absorber called Innofresh AUTO ODOR ELIMINATOR, so I tried it for a combination of smoke odor and spilled milk? Well, it worked incredibly well. I had tried lots of different things before and I really don't like those fragranced air fresheners (besides read the warning statements). Instead, this little carbon odor absorber is totally fragrance free so it actually gets rid of the smell. I strongly recommend it. I checked on line and you can also get it at Checker auto, Schucks, Kragen auto and Murrays. Probably also online I'd guess.
If you're car smells and you hate those fragrances like I do, then I suggest you also give this a try.
