Getting Started with Radio Controlled Cars

Practically everyone has used a remote control of some sort throughout their life. There's one for the television, there's one for the VCR, and there's even remote control toys. Thanks to advances in technology no longer are these simply toys, but rather advanced machines that require care and maintenance. There is a radio controlled vehicle of every shape, size, and type for every kind of person.

Most people tend to pick out a remote control car due to its ease of use and familiarity. However, even picking out a radio control car can be quite challenging. By far most people opt for an off road buggy. It has big nubby ties, usually comes with a full suspension, and has high ground clearance. All of this adds up to create a rugged vehicle that can travel almost anywhere the controller wants. Most of these buggies are approximately 15 inches long and come in either 2wd or 4wd depending on which you prefer. These can reach speeds ranging from 15-30mph. There are also on road cars. The main difference between these is they are generally slightly faster, have lower ground clearance, slicks, and more aerodynamic bodies then the off road buggies have.

Also there are mainly two different systems used to power modern radio control vehicles. These of course are Nitro and Electrical vehicles. Nitro vehicles actually contain a very small engine that burns a special fuel called glow fuel. Some Nitro powered cars have reached speeds of up to 50mph. The main advantage of Nitro cars besides their speed is that they require no charge time and can run as long as you have fuel. Electrical cars usually take about 15min to charge and have the ability to run for about 10min.

Now the hard part you know what type of vehicle you want but where should you get it. The best advice I can recommend to beginners is to buy a used car to start of with. Go to www.racingsupermarket.com and buy a used vehicle. This site lists all of the current ebay auctions for remote control cars and accessories only. Since it is more focused on the product you will be looking for it is a lot easier to navigate. Pick out a moderately priced vehicle that matches your specifications and get ready to have fun.

After learning on your used vehicle its time to upgrade. Instead of buying a prebuilt model buy a kit. By building your own vehicle you will learn much more about your specific vehicle such as how it works. This will come in handy whenever repairs must be made.
