The town of Gettysburg is located in Adams County, with a population of 7,490 and a median family income of $56,608.[1] Gettysburg has the small town atmosphere and big town spirit.

As of the 2000 census the population of Adams County was 91,292 with a total area of 522 square miles.[2] It was created on January 22, 1800 and was named in honor of the second President of the United States, John Adams. The County Seat is Gettysburg.

For your children Gettysburg offers a very good school district, that offers a quality education program, modern facilities and diverse curricula. The Gettysburg school district has Adams County's highest percentage of students going on to postsecondary education.

For those who are seeking a higher education, Gettysburg College, one of the nation's foremost liberal arts colleges is located in town. It offers state-of-the-art laboratories, and a wide range of intercollegiate sports, a dozen for each men and women. The college also offers extensive musical, visual arts and theatrical programs. Available are majors in social sciences, natural sciences and humanities as well as preprofessional preparation for law, medical and business schools.

Also for those seeking a theological education, the Lutheran Theological Seminary is located at 61 Seminary Ridge. The Seminary carries out its teaching mission both rooted in the biblical and theological tradition. The Seminary was founded in 1826 and is the oldest of the eight seminaries of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Just outside of town is the Harrisburg Area Community College that offers accessible, high quality and affordable, muti-campus college that provides quality instruction, supported by cutting-edge technology and is in a learning-centered environment.

For those residents in need of health care, Gettysburg Hospital is a comprehensive health care provider with family health centers, a women's health center, also has state-of-the-art surgical and diagnostic programs. For those with cardiac medical problems there is a heart center consisting of diagnostic cardiac catheterization lab, cardiology services and cardiac rehabilitation. The hospital also offers behavioral health, preventive health education and screening programs. For those in need a Transitional Care Center, a sub acute care unit which offers adult respite care services.

Gettysburg offers a variety of churches to its residents. There are approximately twenty-two churches in Gettysburg. Some of them are the First Baptist Church, located Rt 30 West Gettysburg; Gettysburg Presbyterian Church located at 208 Baltimore Street; St Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church located on West High Street; and St. James Lutheran Church located at York and Stratton Streets, are just a few of the churches in Gettysburg. Some of these churches dates back to the era of the Civil War and was used as hospitals during the Battle of Gettysburg, July 1st, 2nd and 3rd July 1863.

Adams County is known for its fruit orchards and it farm products. Starting in May and running until September a Farmers Market in Lincoln Square is held every Saturday, from 7 a.m. until noon.

There is something for everyone in Gettysburg, the surrounding countryside is beautiful and offers a vast variety of outdoor seasonal activities. Golfing, swimming, hiking, skiing, camping, horseback riding and shopping are just a few things that makes Gettysburg a special place to reside in. For those who like a big city visit, New York City is only 206 miles away, Washington DC only 78 miles, Richmond, VA only 186, Baltimore MD only 54 miles and Harrisburg is only 36 miles away. Many residents work in these cities and commutes daily.

Gettysburg is a very special place not only for the history that took place there, but for the people that lives there. You will find the local resident very friendly and will always offer you a "Good Morning" with a smile. Any new resident will be accepted and greeted with open arms and made to feel that they are a part of the community. The spirit that brought the citizens of Gettysburg together on those fateful days of July 1863 still exists today and is very evident as you walk the historical streets of Gettysburg.
