So, let me ask you, ladies: if I told you that it's possible to purchase a Chanel skirt for $150, would you believe me?

Let me introduce you to the best kept secret in Twin Cities fashion: gh2. Located on Hennepin Avenue in Northeast Minneapolis, the divine little sister of the 50th and France boutique Grethen House serves as equal parts Grethen House outlet and couture consignment shop. Simply put, it's the most fabulous boutique in the Twin Cities - and the only place I've ever purchased Chanel without having a heart attack over the price tag.

If recycling clothing makes you squeamish, let me put your fears to rest: gh2 has none of the tell-tale consignment shop features (aside from the prices). It's in trendy Northeast Minneapolis right across the street from Surdyk's; it has a fabulous and fun young staff that is as knowledgeable about couture - and fashion in general - as any style editor; its sleek layout and design is as clean and chic as any upscale boutique out there; and best of all, the selection is huge. From Missoni to D&G to Notte by Marchesa, gh2 has it all.

You know what? I'm wrong. That's not the best part of all. The best part of all is that twice a year, they have a ninety-percent-off sale. As in, 9-0. It's always a free-for-all; everybody's mashed in together and the dressing rooms have dissolved into mass chaos and you're trading items with people you've just met and everybody's having a great time. Last time, I emerged from the storm with a Roberto Cavalli shirt for eleven dollars. As in, 1-1. I still can't believe it.

On top of all that, I have to say that I really like the idea of re-using things. If I bought something I'm just not that into anymore, I can bring it to gh2, sell it, and buy something that somebody else wasn't into anymore. I think it's a really neat way of doing things, and it makes it possible for the average woman to own far more couture than she would otherwise be able to afford. With the economy the way it is right now, consignment is becoming a huge trend. But even if it wasn't, what a great feeling to know that somebody feels fantastic in something that you just weren't that wild about anymore - and vice versa. It's a great use of resources, and I truly believe that it contributes to the greater good.

So, next time you're going shopping, before you head over to the mall, swing by gh2. The prices are about the same as those you'll find in the juniors section of the department stores, and the quality is in another league. The one caveat? There's no return policy. So, make sure that you really love the piece before you whip out your plastic. And because it's a boutique, once you find something you're wild about, get it - it may very well be gone the next time you come back. But not only will you leave with something unique, you'll be supporting a wonderful local company in an economically responsible way. What could be better than that?
