The teapots mouth
Gapes
- Issa
The steel press pumps and pushes like a tired old heart,
Stamping the die in rhythm to a tired old heart.
I believed the green apple would never ripen
Now, the bruises scar the surface like a tired old heart.
History is a picture of the wrecking ball
Knocking down the memories of a tired old heart.
Every moment marks a new beginning, every
Second denotes an ending for a tired old heart.
Issa - an open mouth continues to draw flies
And open flies keep tickling... a tired old heart.

Post a CommentProfoundly true. It is the inevitablity of life...you have written about this universal truth with such clarity and precision AND a sense of compassion that makes you the outstanding poet that you are. You are a treasure, JL Carey....
"History is a picture of the wrecking ball/Knocking down the memories of a tired old heart."--Lovely!
Interesting imagery.
the ghazal of the tired old heart is mesmerising. You have woven beautiful imagery in 'green apples' and 'history as wrecked ball'..loved it!
stunning.. I love to read your verses .. this one is such a joy.. keep sharing ..BTW the imagery is great
I meant to comment on your firefly pic/image. I really loved that one and this one as well. Really added to your work in both. This poem is really intriguing. I have never played with this form. I may have to give it a try! Love the Issa too!
"History is a picture of the wrecking ball" is a great image, and almost an analogy for the passing of summer.
wow this is interesting! I am so used to listening to ghazals in Urdu, very nice to hear one in English.. :)
