Ghost frogs are most commonly found in South America living in the mountains, and near some of the world's highest waterfalls. They will normally make their home among the forests, and the grasslands. Normally, they will prefer an area where there is a river or some form of moving water as these areas are potential mating and breeding areas. For example, they will attach their eggs to the rocks.
The Ghost frogs are known to be smaller specie of frogs as they only grow up to about 3 inches. Generally, both sexes will look similar to each other although, just like every other specie of frogs, the females are slightly larger than the males.
Metamorphosis for these frogs take a longer time as their surrounding environment is generally cooler. Metamorphosis will generally take around 2 years. As stated before, the frogs will mate and breed near an area with a constant supply of water. After breeding, the adults will generally stay near the stream although they will move away from their mating and breeding area.
The adults of the Ghost frogs have a pretty broad diet as they will eat insects, invertebrates, smaller frogs, animals with no backbones, and creatures like worms, snails, and slugs. Although the Ghost Frog is a carnivore, it will not eat members of their own species. Just like every other specie of frog, the tadpoles of the Ghost Frogs are herbivores, and will eat algae which they have scraped from the underwater rocks. The Ghost Frog is considered nocturnal specie as they will hide during the day, and feed and breed at night.
Ghost frogs are rare frogs and are rarely seen most of the time. They are great at camouflaging to the forest floor although they are basically a transparent mass of muscles, and are mostly nocturnal. If you are on of the lucky few to have seen one of these frogs, it's definitely a life-time experience many may not experience.
